I'm not sure if this was targeted or not. It was an offer under my Marriott Chase credit card account. You get $900 cash back when you open a checking and savings account through the link. Sure the interest rates are crap...but once you get your $900 after 3 months, you can close accounts and move elsewhere. Seems like a killer deal...unless I'm missing something?

Setup a direct deposit of $500 a month or have a balance of over $1500 to avoid fees on checking. And maintain balance of over $300 on savings to avoid fees.

Can anyone confirm that an external transfer from a different bank to the checking account would count as direct deposit?
It has to be direct deposit from your work or government retirement etc.. it clearly say in the terms. And the direct deposit comes in have to match the primary account holder. I am in the same boat, changing direct deposit is a pain in the neck for me.
Chase pays crappy interest just so you know too. I wonder if this is a sign the market is cracking. The fed has been doing "Non QE", but would not say which banks it gave the money too. I wonder if were seeing the higher interest rates at some banks and to fund their cash requirements. This is one of the highest offers I have seen for these at Chase.

15k 'laying around' can get you a really nice return if you don't mind opening a few bank accounts a year...and tbh most folks who I personally know and who chase bank / card bonuses have a lot more than 15k laying around.

Balance can still go to the original bank

Id like to hear if there is a way to stack these two deals now and if a coupon code is needed to collect both. Wife could claim the bonuses. Oh on the cheap chase savings an easy way to avoid the fee is have an automatic trasfer move 25 bucks back and forth every month. When you downgrade the accounts it stays the same with the same account number. Just the fees and perks change.
