Pediatric oncology nurse here. When I saw this, my first thought was of a little patient I know with a type of bone cancer that required her leg to be amputated and how she would love to have a Barbie just like her.

Wonder how Barbie wound up losing her leg... I think some kids might get emotional scars from that one.

Not sure what happened to this Barbie but my 18 month old granddaughter got into her sister's Barbies..now there are several missing legs, arms and even heads. There were tears.

From the listing: "Removable Prosthetic Leg Encourages Interactive Storytelling!" Yep, seems they are encouraging you and your little ones to come up with ideas on how it happened. Seems like a great idea. Here are some quick ones: Do you have a train set? Show what happens when Barbie plays a little too close to the tracks. Forgot to feed your toy shark or T-Rex? That should get you started.

In the 80's man buns were aptly referred to a dork knots. Why did that change?

They're represented in the Fashionista collection. But their (not-on-sale) pricing reflects their privilege. laugh out loud

Almost not kidding. This is the only Fashionista doll that comes with the full closet.

Also, all the alternatively-abled dolls are female (two girls in wheelchairs and one girl with a prosthetic leg). All the dudes remain able-bodied. Is there a problem with domestic violence in the Fashionista world? Are only the women getting shipped off to Forever Wars? Encouragement of active storytelling indeed!

(Obviously the diversity here is great for the kids, and of course anybody can understand the practical constraints with trying to hit all the permutations of race/gender/body-type/able-ness/etc. in a product line. But we as adults can have a little fun at their expense. Smilie)
