Product Overview
The HP450 Flashlight uses Coasts Pure Beam Focusing Optic System with Slide Focus to harness the light and create a superior beam quality from spot to flood. The Bulls Eye spot beam pattern gives you a great focused spot while producing an outer ring of flood light which allows you to see a broader area to the sides. The flood beam is broad and consistent, giving you a clear field of vision not seen with typical focusing flashlights. A quick cycle switch allows you to select light output settings with ease. Built tough, an impact-resistant, lightweight aluminum casing resists rust and corrosion. The HP450 also features an unbreakable LED and rubberized O-ring for reliable water resistance and durability. With Coasts commitment to quality, the HP450 Flashlight is impact resistant, weather resistant and its LED is virtually unbreakable. The HP450 Flashlight is backed by Coasts lifetime warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. Tested and rated to ANSI/FL1 standards.

PURE BEAM FOCUSING OPTIC: Shift between a super wide flood beam or spot mode with transition halo at varying distances and brightness.
SLIDE FOCUS SYSTEM: Spot to flood light control at your fingertips. Shape the beam with the simple push or pull of your thumb.
BEAM LOCK SYSTEM: Allows the bezel to lock the beam position in flood or spot mode and anywhere in between the two.
QUICK-CYCLE SWITCH: Control your light power with the push of a button. Certain lights also have a momentary switch—just partially depress the power button.
HIGH, MEDIUM, AND LOW LIGHT MODES: Easily cycle through high, medium, and low light modes using the lights power switch.
SPECS: Light Output 1400 lumens (high), 185 lumens (low). Beam Distance: 265 meters (high), 100 meters (low). Runtime: 4 hours (high), 33 hours (low). Tested and rated to ANSI/FL1 standards.
TOUGH & RELIABLE: IPX4 rated design for water resistance and durable body for 1-meter drop protection.
LIFETIME WARRANTY: Backed by the COAST Lifetime Warranty against defects in materials and workmanship.

I bought one at the full price a few months ago.

I'm a newbie to bright LED flashlights. at full power, the HP450 is blindingly bright. Smilie

however, at low setting, I notice the light flickering(the light projected on the subject) Is this normal?

thanks!

normal for cheap lights, but w/ the naked eye that's pretty poor

Sometimes I ask questions... but I can't handle the answers. Frown

Now I don't think I can stand "cheap" LED lights. Frown

It creates enough heat that you can use this to heat your hands or possibly burn them. Be very careful using this. Do not touch the lens.

Can it light up powerplant from 1000 ft?

Thanks for sharing, I ordered one for store pick up. Flicker might be low battery?

Here is a comparison of majority of the flash lights Home Depot sells.
https://postimg.cc/hzfQBFtq

OP's deal is one of the top if it truly gives 1400 Lumens at $20 which is 70 lumens per $.
Let's say we get 1200, even then it's 60 Lumens per $.

Contender is Defiant 1200 at $15
https://www.homedepot.com/p/Defia.../305098620

But it seems much larger than HP450 1400.

(Most likely) you have "fast eyes". You are seeing the PWM (pulse-width modulation) that this light uses on its two lower settings. Others won't see it.

The strongest feature of this light is the spot-mid-flood focusing. Coast does good lens work. (Though I read that the spot could be better/sharper).

Another good deal right now is the Coast G20 at Amazon for <$7ac (search, and ye shall find [and you won't feed the pig]). It's a 2xAAA inspection light, throwing a very even, not-too-bright, beam; 1ft diam @ 3ft distance. NOT a general-purpose light, but for its designed use, very nice.

If you get one be sure and check batteries. They ship with batteries installed. The cheap Duracells in the one I got had corroded and ruined the light. I would definitely discard them.

So i just picked this up and it's really not what I expected.
Its super bright that for sure but the spot focus is way too wide for anything more than 20-25ft. After that its spread into a very wide spot. I guess Maglite spoiled me big time. While it doesn't have the lumens, it has crazy distance due to a very narrow focus spot end.
Is there any other model with a narrower spot.

As for brightness, it's OK but this is bluish not really natural light. It's super bright at a short distance can easily blind the other person and oh there is no strobe.

What do I do? Anything comparable to this with a narrow spot without being 2 ft long?

Have you heard the expression: "A jack-of-all-trades but a master of none" ?
Just by having the focusing, the HP450, and all other "zoomies" (not costing >$100), is going to sacrifice "perfection" at any particular "focus point". But Coast does better than most (cf: Anker's LC90).

If your goal is to have a really good spot beam flashlight, then concentrate your search on those that make that their specialty. (btw, they're called "throwers"). I (strongly) suggest "Google for <astrolux c8 bang good>". Frequently goes on sale for <$20. You want the "3A" design (a neutral "tint" [NOT blueish]).

Google for <astrolux c8 review> for other opinions on it.

Something you can suggest as a flood light with 30 ft distance appx which goes for longer duration? Thank you

PS Price range of 15 to 30$ and looking for 800 to 1200 lumens?
