I hate when people say things like I got it for $315 and then it turns out they got deals like discounted gift cards which are not available to everyone. Heck, I have Amex offers and staples rewards but it doesn't help anyone if I say "I got the laptop for $200." Please only, post a price if that deal/price is available to everyone, otherwise post it as YMMV and explain how you are getting it.

I have bought this laptop for dozens of my customers and feel is a solid unit for the price. The build quality is better and it comes with a 1080P screen which cannot be said for some of the Dell and HP offerings with otherwise identical specs (CPU, RAM, and SSD). Sure, it isn't a top tier unit but is a great everyday use unit. The build quality is also pretty nice compared to some of the competition. I don't know what Wal-Mart unit someone is talking about but Wal-Mart has a way of ruining everything they get their hands on. Yeah, it is cheap but it is cheap for a reason. I personally try to avoid that place and spend as little money there as possible.

There is the L340 which is a step down from the S340. I picked up one of these for a customer with pretty basic needs when I couldn't get this S340. It certainly isn't a bad unit but the S340 is a nicer unit. The L340 has a more plasticy body and you can tell it isn't as nice in the build quality department. The unit I got was $330 with a Core i3 8th gen, 8GB RAM, and a 128GB SSD.

The Office Depot deal i7 unit is an absolute STEAL for $100 more. If you are in anyway an enthusiast, just splurge and get that one! I bought my allotment of 3x units. The Office Depot one is a 10th gen i7 and has the sweet graphics.

Otherwise this Staples S340 unit is a very good computer for the price. IT isn't a top of the line system but is great for everyday use. I compare it to cars often. You are buying a 300HP Camry when you buy something like this. The performance will be excellent for a relatively basic unit. I think one is way better to spend a little more on something like this than buying crap at Wal-Mart.

Another hint I have is don't bother buying ANY computer without an SSD, especially a laptop. Staples sells an 8th gen i7 version of this unit for more money but with a 1TB hard drive. In everyday use, the cheaper i5 unit (this one), is far better for most people.

This unit may not be perfect but is an exceptional value. You will be spending $1000 if you get exactly what you want.

This laptop seems to be the same as the one on sale at Office Depot, only difference I can find is the $100 price difference and the processor (i5 vs 10th gen i7). Anyone else find any differences? Is one an older model or anything like that? Trying to figure out which laptop to get for everyday use.

My final price on this laptop would be roughly $315. Are there any other suggestions as to whether this would be worth it? My wife is a teacher and she would be using it to create lessons plans. Not for anything intense or gaming

Fast CPU, 256GB solid state, 1080P, backlit keyboard all for $315 is a good deal in my opinion if you're not using it for gaming.

I have the exact same laptop and yes, there is an extra open 2.5" bay slot since the current boot drive is on an nvme drive.
