EDIT information from Better.com!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hello,
I work with Better, com and wanted to see if you could please add in the following information to your post on Amex/Better,com deal as it reads incorrect as it stands, especially regarding eligibility. We want to make sure the offer is stated as accurately as possible:
1) Mortgage rates of any specific customer, stated or otherwise, should not be taken as indicative of a mortgage rate available to all customers. Pricing is based on a number of factors, including the individual credit profile of a potential borrower.
2) The offer is only available to those borrowers who have been marketed to directly by American Express, and those who have not received the offer on their Amex portal or via email are not eligible.

Is better refunding Appraisal fee or Amex? How many days after the closing you got the refund?
No fees are charged to be refunded later....

Anyone close in the last couple of days or weeks? The notary is schedule to come to my house this Friday, I am a bit hesitant having someone over my home.

It will certainly not. You can call them and ask them to update the file with the Amex offer. An easy way to check is to see if you are being charged for appraisal fees. If that goes away then it's linked to the Amex offer. Worst case - you can start a new application
Fantastic. Thanks! They told me on the phone they'd link to the promo, I've just dealt with lots of shady places (mostly verizon) that say things about promos that they never actually do. This seems like a solid check though.

Here is what you can expect or ask for from my experience:
1. New pen for signing wiped thoroughly
2. Pen stays with you after signing
3. Only material they will touch would be your ID
4. ID would be wiped and returned back
5. Can expect gloves to be worn
6. Signing can happen in your front yard or in your garage
7. If you have a Costco table then you can sit on either sides to maintain distancing
8. Masks might be recommended given new guidelines
9. Plus discuss with the notary!!

YOU ROCK! Thank you for responding and with those details. I was planning to ask them if I can sign in my covered patio outside using the foldout table. With everything going on, your response has definitely made me feel better!

PM me. I know a guy who beat everyone on my 30 year refi. I quoted all lenders through Costco (who have $275 underwriting fees - already unbeatable) and multiple local mortgage banks. Loan went through United Wholesale Mortgage (largest underwriter in the U.S.) at 3.25% and 0 points + $4k lender credit. At the time, Costco-linked lenders were quoting 3.625% with 0 points and no credit (for Costco lenders).Just for fun, at the very end, I called the top 10 underwriters in the U.S. and none of them could touch it. Keep in mind this was a high conforming balance condo loan which are typically worse in rate than loans for single family homes. 2.875% is way down the spread and that'll definitely cost many points anywhere.

It was a credit from better.com, it took about 3 weeks before the credit showed up.

I closed last week on the final day of the lock. We did the closing on my patio. Everyone kept their distance and used their own pens, but we obviously couldn't avoid touching papers that the notary/agent had touched. I thought about putting it off, but decided to get it over with.

Don't know why people are having such a hard time rate matching to other companies with smaller loan amounts. Mines under 125k and I got 2.85 match 30 year from sofi.
I definitely cannot get that. I have 115k, and the very best they could do was 3.25% on a 15-year, and that was with points. That was only after I sent them a quote for 2.375, so they couldn't even come close. Really annoyed at this.

I am in the same boat, below $125k and looking for 15 years. Better can't rate match other lenders. One difference is see is other person did 30 years and we are 15 yrs. I don't know if that makes any difference but it's interesting to note rate matching doesn't work for smaller amounts.

I sent Better the same 2.375 rate on a 15 year 110k loan too. They refused to beat the offer and reneged on their $1000 guarantee. I filed a complaint with Amex over Better's false advertising and my state's financial department is looking into their tactics.
