I would think its too small. Even if you can get the water level high enough to cook adding bagged food will take up the rest of the space. Not much room left for water. Been looking for something insulated to cook with myself.

Looks exactly like the one I used my Monoprice sous vide cooker with. If you were in the upstate of South Carolina I'd give you mine because I need to get rid of it and I don't have that cooker anymore. For smaller and low volume steaks, etc. it worked great for me.

For anyone looking to use this as an actual cooler, the insulating abilities are quite poor. The walls are super thin. I had one and found it could barely keep things cold past lunch. Probably decent for storing things, non-cold lunch box, or making clear-ice, etc. but as an actual cooler - the Igloo offerings with double the wall thickness of this work much better at keeping things cold.

Are you saying it won't keep your food cold past lunch even with an ice pack? Cause I have found that it will.

This one is too small. I would say you need at least 12qt. But, why do you want to use a cooler for sous vide? You can easily buy the rubbermaid plastic container for that purpose. I saw it very cheap on SD recently from amazon

These are insulated so it will retain heat better, using less power.

It might work for you and might not for him. Different lunch times, different working conditions, different climates or other variables that factor into the success/failure rate of everything.

I would be concerned using a cooler for sous vide. The materials likely aren't designed with the idea of maintaining extended HIGH temperatures, instead of cold temperatures. The materials might not be safe for food in those conditions. If you're looking for heat retention, maybe look into a thicker steel or cast iron stock pot and fit an insulating cozy on it.
