To those who had a chance to compare silver and black versions: is backlit keyboard equally bright on both? Black version has white letters, silver version has black (?) letters, I wonder how much of backlight the letters let through on both. I ordered silver (because it was 5 days faster delivery), but might be tempted to switch to black.

jesus tapdancing christ..will you people stop?

I just bought a laptop that has 8gb... I watched benchmarks closely.. i put in another 8gb ram... guess what? SAME EXACT FPS. MOST GAMES TODAY DONT NEED MORE THAN 8GB RAM, unless its star citizen or you have chrome with 20 tabs open at the same time.

THIS WILL PLAY DIABLO 3 NO PROBLEM, jesus christ people stop.
Which laptop did you do your test on?

We all know that most games don't need more than 8GB ram, but that's not the point.

The real point here is that Vega igpu on the R5 really wants a lot of bandwidth so motile having only one ram slot really limit that bandwidth and the R5 laptop with two ram slots has double the memory bandwidth for the Vega iGPU.

Also depends on what game you are testing. if your game is so old and not graphic intensive, then it could be actually cpu limited rather than gpu limited. in that case it doesn't matter what kind of bandwidth is available for the iGPU.

FYI the latest BIOS is dated "20191127".

November 27, 2019 just passed so I'm very happy they've got it up to date. I want them to keep providing updates and patching issues and providing fixes. One thing in particular is the ability to change how the Fn keys function, the sleep/wake delay, the lack of open lid to wake, etc.

Not bad Motile, not bad.
did yours come with new bios? the bios on mine is from 8/2019, I know they provide the new bios on their site but i still don't know how to to the bios and EC flash from the zip file they provide.

I wonder if it's possible to either move the micro SD card socket deeper inside the laptop, or install a replacement (spring-loaded, they are available on Aliexpress for less than $1), to make the card sit flush? I wanted to permanently insert a large capacity card to store infrequently used stuff like installation files, movies, etc. But it's sticking out, that's a bummer.
IMO you're much better off utilizing the secondary M.2 slot inside and installing a SATA or NVMe drive of your choice. You'll get much higher speeds and capacity at a good price. I'd also add a thermal pad to help dissipate the heat generated by the drive onto the aluminum bottom cover like they did with the OEM factory drive.

It is a bummer that the micro SD card doesn't sit flush but it's a storage medium that's meant to go from say a camera to a laptop for transferring pictures then back to the camera where it belongs. It's also limited by USB 2.0 bus speeds so another bummer. If you can mod it that would be awesome but probably not worth the hassle.

Yes, I will install a NVMe in the second slot, but want to keep it "clean" and delegate SD card to junk. I bought Acer Spin 1 for $150 a few days ago with a flush micro SD slot and it's awesome, insert and forget.

That's a gaming laptop with a lot more powerful DISCRETE graphic video than this motile with the Vega iGPU. when you add ram on the MSI laptop, you are obviously not changing anything at all related to the MSI laptop gpu bandwidth. so obviously you will not see any change in frame rates.

Mine came with the 8/2019 BIOS. I haven't had a chance to figuring out how to update it yet. I'm still at work and the computers are at home.

you can access the reader easily but i don't think you will find another replacement with the same screw and slot spacing easily.

This laptop or the Lenovo 330s which is also on sale ?? Which would be better out of box for playing fortnite?
And why? Thanks!
lenovo has the advantage of higher iGPU bandwidth due to the built in 4GB ram and a separate dimm slot. and a bigger 15 inch screen

But just about everything else about it is worse than the motile. High on the list of dealbreaker for me is the lenovo 30whr battery giving only not much more than 2hr battery life as noted by other people.
