Thanks for being the guinea pig. Let me know if we can somehow save our old bios and ec for you to reflash. otherwise i guess time to return that back to walmart and get another one.
I poked around the ITE Flash Utility and was unable to find out how to read/backup the EC FW.
Quote from Pinako :
I can confirm that the keyboard backlight buttons (Fn + F6/F7) no longer function to change the brightness; the backlight still automatically turns off after a delay and turns on again with a keystroke. The fan is indeed more aggressive, remaining on for longer, but it does eventually turn off for me (in Silent Mode). Fn + F5 still toggles Silent/Basic mode, and you can tell based on the power LED's "breathing" pattern, but the OSD message is gone. My laptop retains its ability to sleep on close and wake on keystroke.

Definitely some inconsistent effects here.
OK, it looks like two data points for both of the issues. To elaborate on the fan issue, In basic mode, the fan continues to spin for me, although it does eventually stop in Silent mode. And then after having the fan stop in Silent mode, I can change to Basic mode and the fan will remain still. See below for my lid close behavior:
Quote from sgtsloth222 :
Wait, did your unit actually wake when the lid was opened? I thought it was not a feature on this laptop.
Quote from eduardmc :
This is after the firmware upgrade right about the lid closed doesn't go to sleep. because I just opened mine setup everything and the lid when it close laptop goes to sleep.
No, I don't think I ever had wake-on lid open (even before the FW update). What also appears to be the case is that upon lid close, the laptop does not go to sleep (or turn off the screen). Try this--turn the screen to max brightness and close the lid. now just barely crack it open and you'll see that the screen stays on. Can anyone with combinations of FW & EC update chime in on this? BTW, I had performed a clean install of Win 10.

EDIT: For the sleep/wake lid issue, I've discovered the culprit. I tested sleep switch with a magnet in the lower front right and the PC went to sleep immediately. Upon opening it up, I discovered that the sleep switch had popped out of its place when the battery was installed on top of it. So yeah, definitely some QC issues with these laptops. This one is going back anyways as I repurchased when the price dropped by $50

strange you guys have sound problems. mine is loud out of the box. I noticed fn+f5 doesnt show any response on the screen, nor there is any AMD settings if i right click desktop. dunno if that helps.

how cheap is the bottom rubber strip material hah, its like it might have paper mixed in. Smilie

Im gonna put 16gb ram into it today and see what fps i get on those games i ran yesterday.

bad - you can tell materials are second grade. It has more plastic/aluminum mix than macbook air (you can tell by how cold they get)

Why do people do this? It's a sub $300 laptop from a no-name Chinese builder and you're comparing it to a "luxury" marque and knocking it for it.

Ermahgerd, muh $15K Toyota Corolla feels so cheap next to this $70K Tesla. So second grade.

Hey, at least it has HDMI Stick Out Tongue

Question someone related to this.... i have an xps 15 with 32gb ram (2x 16gb). If i remove a 16gb ram stick and replace this laptop with it and insert the 8gb next to my 16gb for a total of 24gb in my xps will it cause any dual channel problem. Is running a 7300H intel

Can someone try using produkey to see if the bios does have the product key in it? Just curious. I returned mine because it wouldn't auto activate after clean install of windows and updating the bios (using the uefi usb boot)

Just wanted to confirm as I ordered another one

If the timings don't match you may have decreased performance, but not likely in a meaningful way if you're not heavily taxing your laptop with memory intensive tasks.

Best bet if you want to quantify it, run some benchmarks before and after the RAM swap. Overall, as long as it's still running stable for you, you're good to go.

This is great! Single button for volume up/down and mute. I wish there's a way to also do the same for screen brightness keys.
