this is becoming an insanely good deal. it was a good deal at 399, better at 349. and now 299? it's one of those slickdeals i'm tempted to buy even though i dont need it!
I am sure if you wait even more till 2021 or better 2022 BF, there will be even better electronics. 😛
Review for the laptop [notebookcheck.net]

Seems to be 2 M.2 slots and 1 DDR4.

Out of curiosity, if you output at 1080p, do you still have issues? I haven't had trouble with 1080p output, but I haven't had a chance to try 4K yet.
i remember on the first motile i had, it did. As for the last motile, the third one i am on right now, haven't tried 1080p output since using firefox it seems to be ok.

I really do have to have 4K hdmi out for my work so 1080p hdmi output won't cut it..

Have you tried to create a custom resolution in the AMD control panel, setting the timing standard to CVT Reduced blank? (Based on what I read here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comm...dium=web2x)

Mind sharing your checklist? Sounds like it could be nice to go through!
It's still being developed! So far I have: Backlighting, Keyboard Keys, Touchpad, On/Off Touchpad, Gestures, Display Dead Pixels/Bleed, Power Button, Power LEDs, Fan Modes, Sleep Mode, Microphone Recording, Webcam Recording, Infrared/Windows Hello, HDMI Output, Ethernet, USB port check, USB-C check, Audio Jack check, MicroSD reader check, SSD and Smart Values, Charger/Charging, Battery Test (Windows Battery Report), RAM/Memory Test, Speakers, Hardware Test Software (e.g, HWInfo, CrystalDiskInfo, etc), Drive Clone/Image Backup (just in case, right?), GPU test (e.g, games), Bluetooth Pairing, Wi-Fi, BIOS, Hinge Open/Close...

Not a complete list, but maybe we can get something going if that's of interest. In fact, speaking of which, I hope it's not against the rules here to mention it, but would you guys be interested if we were to create a Motile owner/enthusiast community? Not to mention, it might help convince Walmart to continue making these if they see strong community support.

I mean, sure we have that right now, but I'd like to use this momentum to get more organized since right now we're spread across different threads on Slickdeals and we could definitely organize ourselves better (drivers, and all that good stuff!). The Wiki has been a great start.

It seems to occur when i use chrome to play youtube video onto my 4K monitor. you get screen just going blank momentarily. when i play video it doesn't take long for the blanking to start happen. Maybe a few minutes into a video?

firefox seems to do ok.

do you output to a 1080p or 4K tv? I outpput at 4K 60hz. thr the hdmi.
I haven't yet tested it to different outputs, that's a really good point. I've only tested it on a 720p 32 inch TV. I forgot about how that could matter in my testing. Looks like someone else was able to do 1080p output... so now the question is 4k. I don't think I have anything 4k readily available at the moment to test with, though. Only 1080 & 720.

I think that the recommendations against it are generally for plans that are more expensive for less coverage. Best Buy, for example, charges like $170 for a 3 year accidental damage plan on a $330 laptop -- that's definitely not worth it.

I'm still on the fence -- accidental damage coverage is a plus, and the odds of being able to find parts for this in the future are probably not great. For example, I'm not having much luck finding parts for Walmart's Overpowered brand on eBay, nor much under "Tong Fang", and I expect similar availability for Motile.

As an aside, some credit cards will also extend the warranty after a purchased extended warranty -- Amex seems to be one. So for example, if I get the 3 year plan, I'd have 3 years parts + labor through the Walmart protection plan, then Amex's extended warranty benefit will add duplicate the manufacturer's warranty (so another 90 days labor + 1 year parts), for total of 4 years of parts and 3 years and 3 months of labor.

Out of curiosity, if you output at 1080p, do you still have issues? I haven't had trouble with 1080p output, but I haven't had a chance to try 4K yet.
Great point. I did do some comparison checking with the various extended warranty companies and even Squaretrade themselves is more expensive than the Walmart offered plan, so there's that too. I am thinking about it.

Yeah, I also tried looking for parts and all that. It seems like a challenge! However, we are covered for 1 year hardware from manufacturer and 1 year with card benefit supposedly... question is how this will all look. Would they mail us a part that we could DIY so it's still under the warranty with no labor charge? Haha. Not sure, never been in this scenario.

This is great! Single button for volume up/down and mute. I wish there's a way to also do the same for screen brightness keys.

Were you able to locate keys 129, 131 and 133?

Hate to repeat myself.. but it seems like i am the only one using the hdmi output extensively because hard to believe no one else here has posted anything about it.

I've gone thr three M142 now. They all seem to have some issues with hdmi. The first one keeps intermittently blanking out for no reason... even with just having the standard windows background only with no apps running.

second one did better but still having the same issues. just less frequent

third one i am on now seems to have issues only when i play a video on the 2nd screen connected via the hdmi using chrome. playing with firefox seems ok.

these things only seem to happen on the hdmi screen. the laptop screen itself never have anu blanking out problem. I am thinking this is somehow related to the vega igpu.

Was hoping more people would maybe check out and see if they have this issue but seems like no one else cares or really use their hdmi frequently.

Did you trade computers in the store or buy a new one and return the old one with the new receipt?

You should probably update your original complaints of the HDMI not working to say that it has issues at 4k....
Makes it sound like you had 3 bad machines and all of them had bad HDMI ports

I use 4k @60HTZ daily without issue. Windows in general and Youtube specifically run flawlessly. I output via HDMI to an LG OLED B8 TV. My HDMI cable is nothing special, nor did I do anything special to the laptop -- no BIOS update, no Windows reload, and all drivers via standard Windows Update.

If you're running a stock setup like me, and you've tried three laptops without success, I'd guess the problem is on your end. It's got to be a cable, your TV/monitor, or software (I use Microsoft's Edge beta browser).

Let me know it there's something you'd like me to try to help you troubleshoot the problem. I'd hate to see you have return what I think is the best cheap laptop you can buy.

Mine just came in! Looking pretty nice so far. I was planning on upgrading the RAM to 16GB and new WiFi card. I should have bought the RAM when I was looking at it, it was only $49.99, price went up to $57.99. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/produ...EU85&psc=1

Does anyone have a similar 16GB RAM stick I could buy for under $50?

You don't need to focus on speed ratings beyond 2400, as Ryzen APU is limited to 2400. going with 3000 won't matter at all, it will never run at that speed.

So, I did receive one of those angled USB-C to 5.5x2.5mm adapters and can confirm that charging with PD works just fine! My USB-C PD 65W charger is about half the size of the Motile charger. Noice!

Also, bought a Mosiso sleeve for about $10 (search Amazon), fits nicely. Ordered a similar Voova sleeve for about $13 for my other Motile. (my resistance was futile, so I bought them both Motile!)
