this is becoming an insanely good deal. it was a good deal at 399, better at 349. and now 299? it's one of those slickdeals i'm tempted to buy even though i dont need it!
I am sure if you wait even more till 2021 or better 2022 BF, there will be even better electronics. 😛
Review for the laptop [notebookcheck.net]

Seems to be 2 M.2 slots and 1 DDR4.

I had Ubuntu 19.10 installed before I upgraded to an AX200 wifi card, and upon reboot Ubuntu didn't detect it.
(me being lazy)Instead of going through the steps to install the drivers for the AX200,
I just re-installed the entire OS. Ubuntu works great after the re-install.
Thanks! I was using xubuntu but it didn't have the drivers so I installed Kubuntu instead and it detected the ax200 drivers.

We're getting closer to the return period for many.

Anyways, major laptop brands (Dell, Apple, HP) usually use the following suppliers which are Compal Electronics (Taiwan), Quanta Computer (Taiwan), Foxconn Electronics (Taiwan), Flextronics (Singapore), Pegatron (AsusTek) (Taiwan), Inventec (Taiwan), Wistron (Taiwan). Of course, the locations are simply where the headquarters are.

This laptop is manufactured by Tsinghua Tongfang https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tsinghua_Tongfang which is owned by Tsinghua Holdings https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tsinghua_Holdings, a state owned enterprise and company officials are CCP government people.

Another company owned by Tsinghua Holdings is Tsinghua Unigroup, which was going to purchase Western Digital the famous US maker of WD & Sandisk storage products, but never happened due to US security concerns https://www.latimes.com/business/...story.html.

Tongfang was sold from Tsinghua University to China National Nuclear Corp another state owned entity https://www.caixinglobal.com/2019...01757.html.

Tongfang also makes TV's under brand names Element, Seiki, and Westinghouse.

How concerned from a security perspective should one be? Like say average Joe going to work?

No idea what THX, Walmart, and all did to check into this as being as secure as say buying a Dell computer. Not trying to be tinfoil... just wondering what people think since this is a new brand and I don't know what Walmart did here since they're not really an electronics brand and probably don't have people working on this with that kinda expertise.

I know everything electronics today is made in Chinese factories, and all the parts used in the supply chain, but there's some kind of US brand that knows electronics or security probably checking things?
Christ, why does the FTC keep allowing this? Is everyone at the FTC on the CCP payroll?

While some amount of skepticism is healthy, I should point out that one of the companies that owns (and started) Lenovo is Legend Holdings, which was started with a $25k investment from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, a government owned entity.

And let's not forget about the previous issues Lenovo has had with installing spyware: https://www.inverse.com/article/3...-32-states

Lenovo, as you know, makes the Thinkpad, IdeaPad Yoga, etc laptop lines, and owns Motorola. They do claim to not be beholden to the Chinese government, but who knows...

However, I don't see anybody really posting this on all the Lenovo laptop threads....

My point is, Motile / Tongfang probably isn't any worse than other more trusted brands...I think for the average Joe, there's nothing to worry about.

I find it hilarious people questioning the security of a single vendor or brand. ALL this stuff is made in China. If they are going to spy, you sure as heck won't be stopping it. Heck, our own government has virtually cornered the market on the tech needed to spy on the entire world.

The average consumer shouldn't worry about their privacy, they don't have any to begin with.

Over 100 pages, holy cow. Well, it might not matter, but just gonna drop my 5 cents:
the one I've received after purchasing through this page is complete and utter garbage.

It's been playing with me a game 'guess what's gonna fail on this startup?' Sometimes it's the sound just stops working through both speakers and headphones, until you reinstall the THX audio driver; sometimes it's the completely dead keyboard.

Never again will i purchase a no-name laptop.

I think these problems are related to the bios updater trying to install unsuccessfully. Maybe search for the manual installation instructions 5 or 6 pages back?

sorry to hear it's not working out for you. Honestly, this has been my favorite laptop so far. Keep in mind, I started with laptops way back in the beginning when they were $2,500 or more for large, heavy bricks that were slow as molasses.

Question.
I cloned the M.2 SATA drive onto an M.2 NVME drive. I installed the M.2 NVME drive into the M.2 slot.

I want to change the boot order to boot from the M.2 NVME drive. When I go into the BIOS, the below are my boot order. Due to the boot order, is the laptop already booting from the NVME drive. Is Option 5 the M.2 NVME slot and Option 6 the M.2 SATA drive?

Option 1: UEFI USB key
Option 2: UEFI USB Hard Disk
Option 3: UEFI USB CD/DVD
Option 4: UEFI USB Floppy
Option 5: UEFI NVME: Windows Boot Manager
Option 6: UEFI Hard Disk: Windows Boot Manager
Option 7: UEFI Network
Option 8: UEFI CD/DVD

Thanks.

Anyone having high battery drain in sleep? Sometimes i have the laptop in sleep on a desk and it can drain the whole battery in 3-4 days. It should be in sleep mode as i have to press the pwer button to turn it back on. I would lose 10-20% per day if not plugged in.
Try using Hibernate instead of Sleep.

Disabling virtual memory gave me even more memory available... I jumped form 20GB available to 21.5GB-24.5GB available now... LOL!
There's not really a good reason to disable the page file. Having it disable may increase system instability as you start to fill up RAM. Disabling it may eek out a very small performance gain that's not worth the possibility of instability. The solution to running out of memory is usually installing more, run more efficient programs or be reasonable with the amount of things one expects a machine to handle at once.

19volts 3.42amp power brick with 5.5x2.5mm connector/plug/adapter (part that goes in the laptop).

I updated my bios to 1.06. I had to remove THX to update it.

However, now I do not see THX Spatial Audio in the Task Scheduler.

Anyone having the same issue? Do I need the THX Spatial Audio?
