mind sharing your process? i bought 3 years of the brazil 12 month code today, xbox coming in mail by tuesday. i think i understand how to turn on vpn redeem gold sign up for gpu promo etc. but still nervous about the brazil cdkeys stuff working. feeling like i jumped the gun maybe should have gone costco route. and i bought the full 3 years already. crossing my fingers brazil codes work for me.

Make sure you are logged in. If you see the offer, then you're good. If it says "Extend" then you already have GPU. If it says "Join" for $14.99/month, then you had a subscription or trial in the past and will not be eligible for the 1:1 conversion.


Next you'll need to have access to a VPN. Make sure you have this up and running before you buy the codes from CDKeys (CDK). You don't have to have it active when purchasing from CDK, but it's better to be prepared in advance. There are plenty of free VPN options. Use whatever you're comfortable with. I used Tunnelbear's free option for this. You can either download their software or use the Chrome extension (which is what I did):

Note that it will prompt you to sign up for an account when using the app or extension, so go ahead and create one if you haven't already.


Once that you've verified that you're eligible for the offer AND you're able to get your VPN up and running, you can purchase the XLG code(s) from CDKeys. Again, the VPN does NOT have to be active for this part. Note that some people are having issues with payments being flagged or denied. This can happen on occasion, so just verify that you were not charged and try a different payment method. CDKeys is a legitimate site, and they have delivered on every order I have made with them. I got my codes within 3 minutes of placing the order.

If you already have a Gold subscription (but not GPU), be aware that you can only have a maximum of 36 months on your account at one time. If you buy 3 codes at 12 months each and you are a current XLG subscriber, you will not be able to redeem the 3rd code as it will put you past 36 months.

If you currently have XLG, you can instead redeem 2 codes for 12 months and enable automatic billing after each redemption for 2 free extra months. ONLY DO THIS IF YOU ARE A CURRENT XBOX LIVE GOLD SUBSCRIBER. Otherwise, if you get the free extra month(s) when you are trying to redeem all 3 codes, it will not let you redeem the 3rd code as it will put you past the 36 month mark.


If you haven't already, enable your VPN connection and make sure the country selected is "Brazil." Once connected, go to the address below to verify that your IP address shows your location as Brazil.

If it does, you're ready to redeem the codes. If you want to be extra cautious, you can delete your browser cookies, but I was able to redeem successfully without having to do so. With your VPN active, visit the Xbox Brazil website below and log in as usual.

You can use Google Translate in Chrome if you need it, but it's pretty straightforward. Just click on your portrait in the upper right and then click on the 3 dots/ellipses (...) to access "More options." Then choose "Resgatar" or "Redeem." It will then redirect you to the US website to redeem the code(s). THIS IS NORMAL. Now you can redeem the codes as you normally would. As each code is being redeemed, it will ask if you want to turn on auto-renew. DO NOT DO THIS IF YOU ARE REDEEMING ALL 3 CODES. Otherwise it will put you past the 36-month limit. If you accidentally choose the recurring billing option, you can still fix it. Just hold off on redeeming the other codes and contact Microsoft/Xbox support. They can remove the bonus month for you and you'll be able to redeem the other subscriptions.

After each code redemption, just hit back in your browser and click the redeem link on your profile dropdown until all of your codes have been added to your account.


You can now safely turn off your VPN and subscribe to GPU for the $1 3-month offer:

It will tell you how many months of GPU you will get for signing up before you purchase it. Note that it will not give you the extra 3 months, which I believe is due to the 36-month limit.

After that, you're all set! I do recommend that you turn off recurring billing, as they will charge you the quarterly price $44.99 for GPU after your subscription ends. You can do so here:

Final note: If you are still getting redirected to the Brazil Xbox site instead of the US, even with the VPN disabled, clearing the browser cookies will fix this. You will just have to log back in after.
