It hasn't been a month since they released this same deal. I bought one when the deal came around at that time. I also bought a refurb JBL Link 20 hoping to decide which one to keep/return. Honestly a hard choice and I can't make up my mind as both have their negatives and positives.
Pros are that the UE Megaboom is louder at maximum volume (but ofc gets distorted at that high of a level). They connect much faster than the JBL Link 20, almost instantly. And they have a very nice interface like the startup sound and sound to tell you it's connected via Bluetooth to the device. It also has aux which might come in handy. In addition, the Megaboom has a lot of customizable features via its app like being able to power it on, messing with the equalizer, and if others have the app they can connect to the Megaboom too and play whatever song they choose without having to disconnect Bluetooth every time. I would say I've noticed that the battery isn't that well. Like I feel like I made it go from ~100 to ~70 something in 2 hours (which isn't bad but not like it would be if it was new). I'm not sure about the water resistance but according to people here, you will have to test that one for yourself and see in case you do choose to buy one.
Pros for the JBL Link 20 are that it has google assistant, and because of that, even though it's still a portable Bluetooth speaker it's a great smart speaker as well. Like one cool feature I found was, if you have other google smart devices like home mini, was making a group to allow these devices to play together via the Google Home app. (Almost like UE Megaboom but to other UE devices, but pretty nifty for those who have a lot of google smart home devices which are usually more around than having more than one Bluetooth portable speaker imo within the house.) Cons are that it takes surprisingly longer than it should to connect, like more than a minute to just turn it on and then get connected automatically via Bluetooth. It has a nice LED panel for volume on the top side; no aux port though. Also, because it's run by Google assistant, it isn't a usual JBL device like JBL Flip 4 so you won't be able to use the JBL app with this device. And I'm unsure with the battery is like but I think it's pretty good as the bars stay full when connected to the charger after testing for 1-2 hours (still can't figure out exactly how much battery left on the Link 20. Google Home app maybe?)
The sound quality of the UE Megaboom compared to the JBL Link 20 is different. In my opinion, it doesn't sound bad but not as clear as the JBL Link 20. The JBL Link 20 according to most of my peers claim to sound better because it's more clear compared to the Megaboom which is more punchier, has more of a bass, and voice and background go better hand in hand than JBL Link 20 (if you know what I'm talking about). In some instances that "punchiness" and bass is better for certain music than others. This is one of the reasons why I can't decide which one to keep/return when listening to music.
With this being said, which is the better of the two according to what you guys think/ any experience or knowledge that you might have with these devices?
