The better deal is through the Canon Upgrade Program. You can get a new EOS R plus EF Mount, and SD card for $1,199.20. Just need a serial number from an out of warranty canon camera to get the 20% off the new EOS R sale price.
You realize it, I realize it, paying clients could care less. They want their photos.
If you are doing weddings or events dual is a must have. I would almost go as far to say it is irresponsible of the photographer if they don't.
I see thumbs up, I am tempted to get one, I got 70D refurb from Canon years back and want to move to a full frame camera...torn between 5D4 and EOS-R...anyone has any comments...i have been following other threads, looks like more people are suggesting mirror less

I'm leaning towards a Mirror-less full frame, but the R has some problems. I haven't noticed these comments in other reviews of the R, so definitely take my experiences with a grain of salt..
The autofocus was horrendous and way worse than my SL2, which surprised me. The R (using EF lenses via the adapter) was constantly hunting for focus. I was testing it out at a fashion shoot and it really struggled. There's a weird delay through the viewfinder of when you take a pic and it taking it. I shared the camera at the office and everyone noticed the same, so isn't just something I was noticing being used to the SL2. I'm willing to bet that's some hidden setting though. The eye detect autofocus was complete garbage though and consistently failed to hit the target (again this was well lit models on bright colored backgrounds, very contrasty). For most of the shoot I ended up switching to manual because it just couldn't give consistent, fast results.
This was before the firmware update, but by all accounts that was an incremental improvement, so I'm not confident these issues have been resolved. Again though, I very much seem to be the only one having such a horrible experience so who knows.
I'll be renting an A7 II/III shortly, I hear they're great with Canon glass and assuming it isn't the hot mess the R was, that's the direction I'll be going in. I say all this as a lifelong Canon fanboy and defender.
I did, what i'm asking is i know some manufacturer's outsource refurbs, some to company's i'm aware of and some not. Do they handle the refurbs themselves?

I owned the 5d mark iv for about a year before I moved onto Sony and purchased an a7r iii. No regrets whatsoever. For the price at $1500 its excellent but you can get an a7 iii for not much more... More third party lenses are excellent for sony nowadays as well. Not to threadcrap but for someone thinking about starting with a new body I would research it and try out both bodies in a store more.
Very good price on R. It is very close to my $1000 target price to move to R from 6D2. Adapter is missing in the description. How do we get free adapter?

appears the free adapter is only if you purchase it brand new. if you have an older canon camera, check the other threads where they were able to get it for less after providing a serial number.

Would the Canon upgrade program work for me buying my wife a 5d Mark IV? We have two Canon 6d's currently we purchased new years ago.

I have owned the R for about a year and it's pretty great... the focus is quick and precise. Also, the eye focus competes strongly with Sony after their firmware update a while back.
It would be worthwhile to test either camera before making the choice, Sony, Canon, etc.
my impression is that the R has better user experience, better ergo and touchscreen, whereas the Sony is better on paper in some ways.
For somebody with larger hands maybe the R would be better though.
