Call 1-866-217-4736 from a registered phone and limit Citi selling your information to third parties!

This applies to all Citi cards including cards like Costco issued by Citi.

Remember to ask for a written confirmation in the automated system at the end.

If you don't understand why this is important read the NYT article or below:

https://www.theverge.com/2019/12/...york-times

There are massive data aggregation companies like Factual and Roam. They pay money to apps to give people your location history and build your profile.

They then buy information from financial institutions to tie it to the places you visited

Then they buy information and match up financial transaction time stamps to anonymized store purchase data (from like free rewards cards) to figure out what you bought.

They also then collect public information about you on age, and other demographics

Then they sell all of this as a package to anyone who will pay for it.

update: for those of you who asked about Chase, you must call: 1-888-868-8618. It requires more information than the Citi system when asked if you are a resident of CA, just say yes and limit additional sharing!

Amex: 1- 855-297-7748

First - THANK YOU! I can finally opt out of this damn FlexLoan marketing blitz they have been hitting me with the last few months.

Second, choose the option to speak to someone. There are additional options for mailing, email and texts that the human rep can set and verify for you.

This has to do with the CCPA. The California Consumer Privact Act goes into effect January 1. It requires for-profit companies making over $25m a year (or a few other criteria, but let's keep this simple) to give California consumers options to view where their data has gone, restrict the sharing of that data, or have it deleted entirely. This applies to all companies that meet the criteria, not just companies based in California.

Some companies are opting to open this up for anyone, but most are sticking with what the law requires and limiting it to California.

Just called and it was super easy. Here's my experience: it took exactly 2 minutes, was completely automated. I called from a phone number on the account, provided the last 4 digits of my card number, and pressed "1" four times to opt out of various things and request a written confirmation. That's it.

I must have had some extra sound clouding my number entries. Ended up getting a rep. I mentioned that I was dialing to limit marketing data sharing. The rep attempted to tell me that this was done by device (so for a single CC number if I access by multiple devices I would need to program each device) and not my master account number - clearly incorrect. I would recommend completing the call via the automated prompts as the training provided to people appears to be inaccurate.

agreed, but also "1" for english.
inclusion of the credit card number makes me think it'll end up being for that single card, at best. hopeful for company-wide, but pessimistic.

I don't know, for some reason I don't think mandatory meditation is that bad. Mandatory mediation on the other hand...

Then again, I'm sure many people are just like you and hate meditation.

j/k, gotta love the phone's autocorrect.
Aha aha. Mandatory meditation saves one's soul. Mandatory mediation, on the other hand...my phone runs my life as shown in the autocorrect. It knows what is best for me. Maybe.

IMPORTANT: When you opt out, your Authorized Users are not automatically opted out.

That is a separate request, but it can be on the same call.

EDIT: This is for Chase. The Citi rep told me Authorized Users are opted out with the main account holder.

Thanks for the heads-up. I made an assumption on that. My bad.
