And can someone correct me but it looks like both PS4 and PS4 Pro do have USB 3.1 Gen 1? I'm surprised that PS4 has USB 3.1. However a few review sites state USB 3.0 only for PS4 series so I'm confused. I am inclined to say all consoles USB 3.0 only therefore USB 3.1 is unnecessary feature to pay extra for.
Update: "USB 3.0 and 3.1 gen 1 are in essence the same thing." Sony yes all consoles are USB 3.0 only. Unless it states USB 3.1 gen 2 it's not the next evolutionary USB upgrade. Learned something new.
Sooo, is this a good device for gaming storage? Still looking for one for my xbox 1 and will probably upgrade to the next gen console coming out next year.
What are people using for extra game storage if not this?

Not good for the value. WD 4tb external hdd at $80-$90 would provide the same performance. Any external hdd is fine bc PS4 and xbox support them all.

As long as it doesn't have an integrated hub or over 8tb . . . But yeah, except for many ones the ps4 doesn't support, any external hdd is fine . . . saying they support them all is going to lead to someone getting one home that either wont work or isnt plug and play.
