A RecTec this size is twice the money. I just picked this grill up at HD in Houston. I got the floor model for $550 out the door, which is a great deal with the WiFi. I can slow cook meat the night before and have it ready the next night without tending to it and even away from home. Thanks op.

Pellet grills are awesome as long as you temper your expectations and know what you're going to use it for. These are geared to low and slow. You need low temps to produce greater smoke actually. High temps don't produce much smoke at all. These grills are awesome at ribs, briskets, roasts, chicken, pork, sausages, burgers, seafood, smoked salmon, cheeses, veggies, chili, beans, fondue, pizza's, etc. it's basically a smoking oven. It's really not for searing steaks with signature grill marks on your meat. The temps aren't high enough. I've low smoked steaks on the Traeger at low temps and then seared on high heat with an infrared gas grill or a green egg grill. Very good steaks with a bit of smoke flavor. I'm hearing great steak results using sous vide, water immersion then quick searing on a hot grill. Pellet grills are great at most everything but steaks. I don't think any other grill does ribs and brisket better.

There's a pretty good video from Meat Church BBQ on youtube cooking a brisket using the WiFire app. Pretty slick feature... and it sounds awesome.

I saw all the negative reviews as well but it looks like from folks that don't read directions or using the grill to sear meats, which is the only thing this doesn't do well. You have to break in the grill first which I'd bet most didn't. Then you have to know how to start correctly. I've had an old Traeger for 10+ years but haven't cooked on this yet, so we shall see but the big knock on Traeger are the inconsistencies in temperatures and fluctuations. I always start my Traeger on smoke with the lid up for 5 minutes. Then I close the lid. It then takes at least 5 more minutes to settle. I can then set the temperature to whatever I like. I vacuum leftover ash between using it.

My old Traeger gets hotter nearer the back of the unit, so I keep most meat in the center and front unless I want it hotter. These newer units are supposed to start quicker and easier with more uniform heating. I'll find out this weekend when I cook my first meal. Different pellets make a difference. Also how humid your area effects the pellets as well. If they get wet and mushy, they don't burn as well and can jam the auger. I had to adjust the auger rate of pellets when I first got my Traeger as the temps were way off. I basically tuned it to get my temperature to match my dial. I bet you have to do the same with this unit. Once you get these things running right, there's no other grill like it. If you can find one at this price, don't overthink it. Buy it and just return it if it doesn't work for you but I'd figure it out because these are awesome.

In store was 999. There a way to get them to price match the clearance price?

I bought the smaller Traeger Pro 575 Wifi on clearance today.

I will update the firmware and hope it can reach 500 degrees with the WiFIRE feature.

Check if any stores in the area have it on clearance on brick seek and make note of the locations. Then ask customer service at your preferred store to check on their computer terminal for it at those other locations. Ask for the manager while at customer service, and then ask the manager if they can do even better than the clearance price in their own store, especially if its blemished or rusted or missing parts if it is pre-assembled. They may need to clear inventory and reach numbers by the end of the year. They also probably don't want those big grills sitting around until May. If you get the price you want, pay at customer service and then go grab your grill.
