also stacks with coupons (found a 10% via google search).
My wife uses this stuff, bought some at a local store, only to find it cheaper online.

Some basics that were needed were the weeding kit (though really you could get away with one or two weeders, or the cheapo dental picks on Amazon/ebay) and the adhesion kit with the little plastic scrapey thing to make sure the vinyl adheres is a big help (though you could use a credit card or some other flexible plastic to the same effect, this is SD....).
It's a good time to pick up some basic bulk vinyl white and black rolls from their site which are also marked down heavily, as well as a color multipack. We're just getting into it, but I figure buy this stuff when it's heavily discounted and then don't worry about it later when prices are higher. I haven't explored alternate sourcing for the vinyl yet either.
One more thing to keep in mind, if you've already given this as a gift or recieved this, you get a month of access to their pay-for service for templates and whatnot, but that also gives you 10% off in their store, which stacks with Cash back sites and promo codes.
I bought this when there was ~10-15% CB from urlhasbeenblocked/bates plus the discount sales that are going on now, plus the BF/CM pricing, plus I had my wife sign up for the urlhasbeenblocked/CB stuff to order her stuff, so we got some pretty nice CB/checks in the mail for those services.

Joanns craft store also came out with their own store brand vinyl rolls which is comparable to Cricut brand.
I agree with this comment 100%. The quality of the vinyl will dictate how your project will do. High quality vinyl, high quality project. Orcal for my wife and I all the way.
The pick set from Harbor Freight will do you good for weeding. But DO NOT get the tweezer kit. It is the absolute worst tweezers ever. (Actually I forget if it's 2 different kits, just throw the tweezers away if they come with the picks.)
If you are just starting, a regular iron is just fine. But the Cricut iron changed the T-shirt game for my wife and I. I bet a press is even better.
Also, Inkscape to take your detailed and fine tuned design to the next level. Vectors / SVG are the root to all design. Learn it and use it.
I can share some of the work that my wife and I have done in case you want to see what is possible. Just ask.

My wife would love to see it.

In addition to the t-shirts, vinyl addition and wood signs, I also used the Maker to print vinyl and stencil a homemade arcade machine. See the following thread where I posted some pictures.
