A 10 gallon shouldn't be anything but a quarantine tank, fry tank or for shrimps and snails.
You'll make mistakes and you'll get frustrated. Just keep at it. Eventually they'll become such an easy and enjoyable hobby.
Those fish that was recommended are beginners fish. Easy to take care but don't worry if you accidentally kill it, as long as you learn from your mistakes and improve as a caretaker of these wonderful pets. It's a bit of a trial and error even after researching and reading guides.
I've had my share of kills and mistakes even though I follow directions and read a lot beforehand. Now I rarely ever have any deaths that I would feel bad and would wonder what happened if it happens.
No one has mentioned this but live plants are the way to go. You can start with plastics and add floater plants as they're easy. Seachem Prime is top tier, also best bang for your bucks. A little goes a long way, 5ml per 50 gallons. If you want to save money, you can just fill up a bucket of water and leave it out for a day before using it. You should always have dechlorinator on hand for emergency though.
I tried to make this as short as possible with what I think are good staying tips but I can ramble on forever. If you have any questions. Pm me. Happy to help another person take care of fishes correctly.
I have more aquariums than bathrooms in my house, going to be deleting my "aquarium" deal alert now.

Breeding or just a lot of aquariums running?
You need them when one of the passive fish you add to your stock hits puberty to become an agro-jerk-fish.
