I would get it. 5700 is good.
Just google a benchmark for a game in a review and look at the fps difference and calculate if the 5 10 15 20 30 40 50 fps gain is worth the cost minus you selling yours (if you can)
Don't listen to some dude on SD who says "yes". Numbers don't lie
Well. Numbers aren't ignorant. Hahahahaaha
If you want full details type in 5700 vs gtx 970 and it'll pop up with a link giving you comparisons.

Haha yeah, I've looked at the bench marks and compared them and I know it's a lot better than mine currently, and I want AMD to use freesync, but I guess what I was wondering if I should hold out for another possible deal, or just be happy with this. This kinda summed it up for me, so thanks though 😅

Oh, I didn't know it was comparable to those cards, that's really good to know. Thanks for the tip! And yeah, I did the comparison benchmark a minute before my OP.
If you just search on SD... Lowest 5700 goes for is 280 for blower. So. There you go but you already said you know so you're Gucci. I bought the sapphire one. It's RIPPING 4k, I had a rx 480 lmao

My personal rule of thumb is I only upgrade if I can get 100% better performance, the 5700 is ~70% faster than 970.
Ray tracing is pretty good to have for a GPU that will be around 2-3 years (for me at least), and AMD's next GPU will supposedly have it, but will probably run $450-500 (but come with a perf boost over the 5700 XT.) That's also the optimal price entry point for Nvidia's current crop if you want decent performance with RT (the 2600 is too weak, the 2600 Super is decent but still a bit underpowered IMO, the 2700 Super is the sweet spot).
I'm on the fence and so far have not been able to make a purchase, as I'm also shooting for ~$300-350 price range.
I'm still running Asus GTX970. I recently upgraded (from Intel 4790K on Z97 to AMD 3600 on X570) and have been eyeing the RX5700 cards. Rumors are GDDR6 prices will go up in 2020 but since my GTX970 does what I need, I can wait.
I have to say that the 5700 series cards offer serious performance for the money (at least relative to Nvidia) but many of the 5700 series cards have issues. They are better now with newer drivers but often require adjusting settings in Wattman to get them running quieter and more stable. If you want a plug and play card, consider something else. This might be a plug and play or it might take a lot of fiddling around with settings to get stable.
If only some of the Sapphire cards went on sale at around this price... maybe that'll convince me to make the jump.
