I could not disagree more with this post.

I find multiple core usage all the time in games today such as BFV and this is only going to increase as AMD Ryzen popularity has exploded.

Before you buy anything computer related, please spend some time doing some research on the CPU's you are considering.

Gamers Nexus and Hardware Unboxed are two great YouTube sources.

For example, here is a video on the 4790k which is faster than the 4770k and it shows that at stock even the Amd 2600 is faster though not buy much.

85$ for a "refreshed" AF box version of the Ryzen 5 1600. I think that is the budget king at the moment! Articles out there on these models, don't mean to TC but trying to share the info.

the AF version of the 1600 is just a re-branded 2600 for less money. It's closely comparable to this CPU. Although it only has 6 cores compared to 8. Gl with your builds everyone. Happy new year.
That setup is still very much relevant. Are you having issues gaming or unhappy with workloads? I would think long and hard about what you are trying to achieve. It's not worth to upgrade just for the sake of upgrading

This was not such a great investment back when it launched (It was only $30 cheaper than the 2700X, but boosted far lower than the 2700X) but I think the price differential has widened now (esp. with regards to this particular deal), to the point where the .3GHz boost difference between the two is rather inconsequential. It also draws less power and puts out less heat, which is a definite plus for an overpowered HTPC setup

Thanks OP got one, now to find a good board and psu to fit in dell T30 server box that died prematurely yesterday to a power surge.

I have not built a system in a while, any cheaper/better/future proof boards than MSI B450 Tomahawk? for a build now in Jan 2020.

Would this be worth the money if I already have a Ryzen 5 2600 in my htpc? Also is it the same mother board? Currently using an MSI b450m Mortar. I've been debating between this, the 2700x and 3600. Thanks.

the AF version of the 1600 is just a re-branded 2600 for less money. It's closely comparable to this CPU. Although it only has 6 cores compared to 8. Gl with your builds everyone. Happy new year.

Without trying to search to deep, how does this compare to a 1700?

i upgraded from the 4770k to the 2700x last month. after dismantling the old rig, i sold the cpu/mb/ram and cooler. the amount i got for it covered the new parts. i got my new parts from microcenter so the cpu was 130$ and MB costed 40$ so for me it is worth it. honestly with the upgraded cpu, ram, and nvme drive my gaming experience hasnt changed. the game i mainly play is fortnite but im sure i am more future proof with the 8 core 16 threads. from youtube tech deals, upcoming games requires more than 4 cores 4 threads. so the 6 core 12 threads will handle games but not for long either. 8c 16t will last for another 5 years is my guess.

very interesting, what would you recommend for mboard/gpu (non gamer)? for either 2700 or 1600.

I have a 1700 that's been happily running at 3.8 ghz for the last two+ years. From what I'm reading, even if I found this chip for free, its probably not even worth the time and effort to pull the old one, clean everything up, reapply thermal paste and reseat the cooler. Roughly 10% difference at stock speeds.

I'm waiting to see if the higher core counts (12c/16c) trickle down to the lower price points with Ryzen 4. Even if they dont, maybe the 3900s or 3950s will come down in price. Certainly not this cheap, but I dont mind spending double if theres a decent bump in performance.

Got one. Thanks for the post pretty close to what microcenter had back in early November for $130. 😃 Seems like it should be fine on my b350 board. I'll make sure to update the bios before installing.
