cats don't care about being overweight. it's rare that you find a cat that won't overeat if given the opportunity and this provides an endless opportunity. cats are usually pretty bored and will eat bc they are bored if there is food available. they only need a couple small meals a day, anything more than that is too much.
lazy people (like me) owe it to their pets to invest int a portion controlled (real) automatic feeder. buying one of these (for a cat at least) is unfair to your pet IMO.
eat more gain weight. Eat hard sleep harder.
I'm pretty sure my 19lb miniature pinscher would clean this out in one day. We HAVE to measure his food out or he'd eat himself to death.

If you have a dog with self control, looks like an attractive option.

What's a food timed feeder for cats and for dogs? We are trying to take a two day trip but haven't found any good reviews for an auto feeder

I have used many throughout the years. I now have this one [amazon.com] and it is by far the best i have owned. I highly recommend it. The WiFi / app features are very helpful... it is incredibly easy to set up or change mealtimes through the app. There is a more expensive version that came out recently that has a food meter that notifies you when food is low, but i am fine with this one. $133 is a good price for it also.

Glad I read your comment. I also have a min pin and I had already purchased it. I was like my min pin would just sit there and eat the entire thing. He is so greedy. That would not be a good thing. I think I will stick to his original regimen.

You need to clean this at least once a week because it grows mold. Toss mine out already.

Iseebiz Automatic Cat Feeder 3L Pet Food Dispenser Feeder for Medium and Large Cat Dog--4 Meal, Voice Recorder and Timer Programmable,Portion Control ... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0772VB...dEbS28WDP1
I own this. The app is kinda clunky but does the job.

I bought the Petsafe Automatic Feeder with A/C Adapter [amazon.com]. There's a cheaper version without the AC adapter and it can operate on just batteries. However, the reason I sprung for the AC version was because, if there are any power outages and the feeder turns off, the meal settings will reset. I was going away for an extended trip and didn't want to risk my cat starving, so I had the AC adapter as the main power source BUT I also installed batteries. Not even kidding, there was a power outage while I was away. Without the adapter and backup batteries, my cat would've been one hungry and unhappy kitty when I got back.

These are pretty crappy. The top falls off all the time and you have kibbles all over the floor. Honestly it's just easier to dump food in a regular bowl.

I have three dogs, small to large that free range eat. The large dog will try to get his paw where the pressure keeps food in, dislodges the top from bottom..aaaaand..Bam!...pounds of kibbles across the floor. The small ones stick their whole snouts in there and same thing happens. I honestly hate this thing
