You can say that about any vise depending if the differences have any value to you.

The HF vise is just 26lbs and the Wilton is 50lbs. Huge difference right there.
The HF is made from just "cast iron" with no specs. The Wilton is 30,000 PSI iron casting.
The HF has a single lockdown the Wilton has a double lockdown.
The HF has 2 3/8" throat. The Wilton is 3 3/4" throat.
The HF has no pipe jaws. The Wilton has pipe jaws to 2 1/2".
The HF has four 5/16" holes to mount. The Wilton has four 3/8" holes.
The HF uses God knows what screw threads. The Wilton uses Acme screw threads.
The HF has a 90 day warranty. The Wilton is Lifetime.
The HF has one Jaw type available. The Wilton has five types for various metals.

The HF is an open spindle and nut design letting all the sawdust and metal filings into them. It also lets the lubricant deteriorate. Like the old "non sealed" bearings needing maintenance. The Wilton is a fully enclosed spindle and nut. Lifetime lubricated.

The HF is painted with who knows what. You would at the least have to strip it, prime it with an industrial primer. Then paint it with an industrial hi vis paint that meets OSHA. It is not going last long in a shop. You might as well leave the spray can next to the vise unless you buy top of line industrial paint and primer.

The Wilton is powder coated and conforms to OSHA standards for physical hazards regulation #1910.144

I would assume the tolerances are better for fit and finish on the Wilton but until I get this Wilton delivered I can't vouch for that yet. The extra weight also makes for beefier parts in places.
I agree. It is a 745 in hi vis yellow for Osha physical hazards specification. Unpopular color is probably why Wilton is discounting this so heavily. It is powder coated so it won't be a no brainer to repaint.

Good luck finding a 745 under $200 shipped. It is challenging to find any of their vises heavily discounted for any reason.

What I like about Wilton vises is you can always get extra jaws etc literally forever. Just about every vise addition out there is designed to fit the Wilton's. This is of course the heavier cast model made in China but still heck of a good vice compared to anything else for $100 shipped.

Because of the weight involved with this vise "50lbs" it is likely shipping from manufacturer. Most other vendors list it as shipping from manufacturer. Nobody has these hi vis color sitting around on the shelf. This is also not a huge vise for 5 1/2".

Notice the way Acme put a "J" at the end of the part number. This part number does not exist. They probably did it so no price matching could happen.
What's a safety vise? Why hi-vis?

Stupid question but judging by the photo's this looks like the same 'quality' vise as you would fine at Harbor Freight for $30-40 after coupon. Add $5 for some spray paint and you have yourself an OSHA approved vise at half the cost.

HF wouldn't be the same quality. The castings/machining on many HF tools is very sloppy and would have tons of play. I've also bought tools from them with bubbles/porosity in the casting which causes a weak spot and they snapped. Some HF tools are worth their cost and more, quality can be just fine, but its hit or miss on a lot of it... Wilton is a quality brand that has been around a long time. Chances are you're going to get a vise that lasts a lifetime under normal use with them, and will get it the first/every time you buy it. HF you might go through a few before getting a decent one.

Should I buy this? I'm a mild DIYer around the house. Don't do any piping, contracting, etc type stuff. Would like a good quality vise, but this may be way overkill for me. If it is 50 lbs that would be huge for my workbench that's like 80" x 24" x 1.5" thick pressed board.
