Other than having 265GB in your title, good first post. Seems to be a LOT of reviews that mention a noisy fan on this model, though. I seem to recall an older model HP that solved that with a BIOS update, I wonder if the same would apply here.

Fixed the typo

I picked one up today and noticed the fan is quite loud upon booting up but then it subsides after about 15 seconds. Besides that I can't seem to detect any obnoxious fan noise during normal use.

Full speed fan on boot is pretty normal. Someone had this review posted:

Code:
To fix noisy fan problem: 1. Reinstall a clean copy of Win 10 home 2. Disable the following services: -HP Analytics service -HP App Helper HSA Service -HP Network HSA Service -HP System Info HSA Service

The laptop is quiet as a mouse once I did this.
Reinstalling Windows seems a bit overkill but maybe just disabling those unnecessary services would do the trick.

1) how much bloat is loaded onto this laptop?
2) how easy is it to re-install Win10?
3) free alternative to Microsoft Office (word, excel, powerpoint)?

thx

Wish I had the cheddah to hand over for this. Solid machine for the price and an easy return if unsatisfied. Checks all my boxes for regular home use, save for the 2 in 1 feature. Sometimes rebuilding older lappys is a curse, but does save me some bucks.

1. I don't own this so I have no idea.
2. Probably fairly easy with the media creation tool.
3. Libreoffice is my go-to but others may have better ideas and alternatives.

All good except for 10th Gen Intel® Core™ i5-1035G1 Processor at 1.0GHz. G1 is the lowest graphic for 10th Gen Core i5. Even $280 14" HP i5 laptop has G4.

Doesn't state whether Iris graphics or 620. If it is Iris then G1 looks good compared to most in this price range. If not, does G1 or G4 make any difference when paired with Intel 620?

It's standard Intel UHD graphics, not Iris graphics

You can just choose refresh (delete ALL files) in the Windows 10 settings. It should remove any bloatware and then you can manually remove anything that remains.

You can even select refresh (keep your files) if you don't want to backup your stuff.

It should take about 20-30 minutes. Then you can install Acronis True Image and keep a backup for a quicker refresh.

Then does G1 or G4 even matter?

G4 is Intel Iris graphics so its supposed to have better performance and higher quality output than G1 or regular Intel UHD graphics. It all depends on your use case. The difference isn't going to be that big since both are integrated graphics. The whole idea is that it looks good on paper and makes people more likely to pay up for G4 or G7

It matters when playing video games. But for web browsing and watching YouTube videos, probably not noticeable in video quality or performance.

But the point is that some people can find 10th gen i5 processor with G4 for $300 at Costco. So this laptop with G1 kinda kills the deal.

And that'll have a 15" 1080p screen and an NVMe drive too @ $300, right?

And no gamer is going to buy a laptop without a dedicated GPU.
