The big advantage is that they are not the big bulky gel boots like the LL Bean Wildcats i also have. Those also have their purpose (can you say snowblowing) but for a boot that is good to go anywhere and particularly snowshoeing, these are fantastic including a gator hook and a rubber lip on the back that will hold your heel loop on snowshoes up and it won't slide down. You can use these for everyday use without fear of getting your feet wet and your feet will always be warm. (OK, after six years my first pair had to be re-waterproofed) They are a bit heavy (I believe they actually knocked a few oz's off with the II's. but you are good to go even wearing them to work or a restaurant etc. when the snow is deep everywhere and you won't look out of place. Traction is great in these. The color on sale is a good solid very deep brown almost black from a distance but distinctly brown.
Good choice for anyone living on the northern tier of states or Alaska in the U.S. or anyone that will experience a week or two per year of snow and want a functional daily use boot. And yes, getting them on and off can be a bit frustrating (I see they haven't fixed that) but it's worth it for warm feet and use in any setting both inside and out.
