Bought a pretty similar laptop from dell last month, and just want to for-warn those who aren't already well aware, 17 inches is pretty big. Though I don't regret my purchase for the price I got it and for what I need it for personally, just know that a laptop this size is typically meant to be used as mainly a desktop replacement, and won't be easily lugged around very far/long. The one disappointment I had in mine is that although the touchscreen still comes handy, I'm not able to use it as easily in tablet mode as I anticipated. Guess I underestimated how heavy 5-6lbs is and how much bigger 17 inches is compared to a typical tablet. This seems like a pretty solid price to me, but just a heads up to anyone who needs it to be super portable (ie for school or travel) or want a long battery life, this type of laptop ain't what you're looking for.
This is meaningful, even if you don't need an optical drive.

The laptop can be configured with an NVMe drive, plus a HDD, plus the DVD writer.

This means there's at least one m.2 NVMe slot, plus two SATA bays.

It should be possible to buy the cheapest config, then add a pair of HDDs or 2.5" SSDs, or any combo thereof. Three drives for storage and speed.
For perspective, that extra ~1.6" over a standard 15.4" screen equates to just over 20% larger screen area. It'll be about 1.5" wider and 0.75" taller.

EDIT: Also cannot have both touch and 1080p. Touch is only 1600 x 900 which is not bad but if you're buying a 17" then maybe resolution matters to you.
1080p, non-touch, adds $50.

Ditto all of that plus a note about the hinges. The hinge supports will all crumble to dust in a matter of a few years, and be impossible to repair without epoxy and fingers crossed (check youtube). I'm typing this right now on a very similar HP 17t, and I'm surprised they still sell these things--unless, of course, the internals of this case are completely redesigned with metal and no plastic.

Yeah, a 17" laptop is too big to be considered "portable" in my opinion (having used a 17" laptop for a few years). Not that you shouldn't buy one; if you plan to use it in one location most of the time, and just want the ability to sort of relocate your "desk" at times, it's a totally workable solution. But if you're planning on sitting in bed with it on your lap, taking it on a trip, etc. it's just really big.

Wondering, I had 6 yr old touchscreen 17" Lenovo. Is the weight comparable at 5.63 lbs? I remember that thing was such a pig. Just wondering if this is any lighter then that beast?

And on a 15-inch body, so it's not unattractively big

Backlit keyboard makes it $469 due to requiring color upgrade to silver as well as keyboard upgrade.
