Best Buy is offering $400 off the Pixel 4 and 4 XL for cost of $399 and $499 respectively for the 64 gb models when financed through Verizon. This discount is NOT bill credits and is referred to as a "down payment" on the finance agreement so you will only owe $399/$499 if you cancel service.

I've read the bootloader can be unlocked before the phone is activated on Verizon, once it's activated with a SIM the unlock switch becomes grayed out. If you order the phone for store pickup or delivery the phone should be in a sealed box and unactivated with the SIM attached to it.

This is what I've read:

1. Turn on the phone, do not activate the SIM with the carrier.
2. Update to the latest firmware version.
3. Reboot.
4. Enable developer settings, turn on OEM unlock
5. Boot in fastboot mode, run fastboot flash unlock in a shell, reboot.
6. Set up and activate (mine required a chat with Verizon to activate, it wouldn't activate through the app).
7. Reboot into fastboot, flash a boot.img that has been patched (magisk_patched.img). You can find instructions on this elsewhere.
8. Reboot.
9. Install magisk manager (canary builds). It will say it needs to download a zip to fully install. Allow.
10. Reboot. You're now rooted.

They're locked. Verizon unlocks them after something like 60 days.

Verizon does that mean unlocked but locked bootloader? Not falling for that trap again. This phone will be insecure $80 paperweight in a little more than 2.5 years.

I assume this is verified over on XDA? This is certainly news to me - I don't recall there being any way to do this with the Verizon Pixel 2 XLs for example.

Anyone know if there's a way to get this deal while still maintaining a Grandfathered UDP Business plan?

I would love to get a 4XL, but the battery life is dismal according to reviews, what do you think?

Is it worth waiting for the Pixel 4a or should I jump on this deal? Coming from a Pixel 2 here.

Some statements should not be spoken out loud. This is one of them.

Looks like the same Black Friday offer.. I can confirm that it shows as a $400 down payment, and the remainder is the installment plan starting balance.
