I haven't seen a list here of free TV / Movie options that simply work from a website or an app on mobile, no hardware (Roku/SmartTV/Firestick/etc) or paid service (Cable/Netflix/Prime/etc) required, so here it is!
There may be purchase options available but purchase is not required to access the free content. Download of mobile apps may be required to view unlocked episodes. These are services providing the actual shows/movies and do not include services which only organize your apps/media.
Local channels streaming online, not just for the USA but for all over the world!
- Squid TV [squidtv.net] Click the link, scroll down to Local / Regional, select your state and you'll see the local channels available.

Government related links:
These 2 services do not have their own streaming content, they are search engines for free content in other apps. Search for a TV show or Movie by name instead of searching every app above to see if, and where, it's playing for free. You can also see where, and for what price, the TV show or Movie can be purchased.
For our Canadian friends:
- CTV - Canada's #1 private broadcaster [ctv.ca] (thanks Stars09)
On their main site, CTV has links to other channels for Comedy, Drama, Life, News, Sci-fi.
(Adding this one link but otherwise sticking with USA sites for our SD base)
Feel free to post links to completely free services you use in the comments and I'll add to the list! Remember, only include providers that require no payment or additional hardware: web browser or free apps only!
PLEASE DO NOT SHARE ILLEGAL SITES.
Thanks!

EDIT: looks like live tv requires hardware and a Plex Pass ($5mo) but they now have a desktop app to which I'll add a link.
Thanks for the heads up because I've checked them out several times and never saw the desktop option.
I just installed a few, and so far loving PlutoTV. Tubi is pretty good too. IMBd is helpful using search to find where content is playing free, such as Amazon Prime Video or on TV channels. I may be cancelling my Netflix subscrption thanks to you!
Plex can be used on a computer. It doesn't require a streaming device
Now, they're a joke. Buying box office mojo or whatever they turned it into a shill site that hides all info behind a paywall. Can't even see budgets of movies anymore. Freaking terrible. And no more forums. The derby was so fun as was hangman when I worked late night.
Just a shame
Pluto on the app is different than the web browser, I recommend checking both out. You can do more in the mobile app (favorite channels, hide channels etc) but I love the desktop version as the default. So many channels, there's something for everyone on Pluto!

I think PlutoTV is better, but Xumo is also another channel-based free app/service that is very similar. My LG tv has Xumo built in (called Channel Plus) and my Vizio has PlutoTV built in (as Vizio Watch Free).
EDIT
this is only available in 16 cities and constantly nags for a donation. Not a good option for what we're looking for here.
