Image quality should be close enough to not effect buying decision. More so comes down to lenses, size, price, features, etc. Obviously M100 wins in size, but D3300 isn't huge. M100 has vastly superior video autofocus, although the D3300 would be better if manually focusing during video due to having a mic input.

M100 has a very limited native lens selection although it gains access to Canon DSLR lenses with a relatively inexpensive adapter. However I don't like adapting lenses unless absolutely necessary because it takes away the size advantage. If you basically just want something very compact with better image quality than a cell phone, but similarly no zoom, Canon's small 22mm f/2 lens is excellent though. I keep it on my Canon EOS M bodies most of the time and use a different system when needing a different focal length. And indeed when someone is just wanting better photos than their cell phone without leaning much about photography, the relatively simple and easy to use M100 is one of the best values.

D3300 has access to a huge native lens selection though. For someone who cares only about photos, not video, and wants to actually take the time to learn photography I'd go with D3300 over M100.

Yes, it's mostly a point and shoot camera. You can just leave it on auto or use the flip / touch screen if you want to try manual settings.

There's a variety of relatively cheap lenses too. The canon 22mm is my favorite.

I carry the m100, when I leave my Nikon d750 at home.

M100 better than gx85 IMHO. I could not get Panasonic to deliver what I was looking for. M100 very good for people who just like to use the phone camera... Easy! Good pics!

Which models in the alpha series does this compete against? I have an A6000 with the most recent firmware that updated AF
