From our experience with the first book here, the cover (hardcover, not the dust jacket itself) is not of great durability. We bought these for our elementary school aged son, and after he brought the first book to school about 4 times in his backpack the cover was nearly destroyed. The cover sadly looks like it went through a washing machine ~10 years ago.
We no longer let our son take these books out of the house. We have other hardcover books that have fared much much better in his same backpack.
