Find the Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Extreme Gen. 2. and customize it. If it tell you it is no longer available you probably selected the Gen 1 not Gen 2.
The upgrades will appear expensive, but when you add them you will see that the actual purchase price only goes up a fraction of the cost it says.
I selected the:
-9th Gen Intel® Core™ i7-9750H
-16GB DDR4 2666MHz (this seems cheaper than just upgrading the ram yourself)
-15.6" UHD (3840 x 2160)IPS, anti-glare with Dolby Vision™ HDR 400 with IR & 720p HD Camera, 500 nits
The price came out to $1371.60.
Notes:
-The computer has 2 M2 slots for SSD drives, so I just ordered the 256 GB drive and will add a larger drive in the second slot for storage. This is much cheaper than upgrading the drive through Lenovo.
-From what I read the 4K display apparently really hurts battery life, so you may actually want to consider sticking with an FHD display.
-Shipping is "more than 5 weeks"

If you plan on using this on your lap, know that your legs block the intake vents.. I've had it shut off suddenly from overheating on at least two occasions.
Shit laptop overall. I hate spending more money than I have to but I think a MacBook is justified in this case.
Also recommend a 2nd battery charger. Cheaper on eBay. I have a charger upstairs and down. It is an inconvenience to carry around a charger even in my own house.
I only use the Gen 1, 4k of this in my house. I can't comment on the ruggedness of traveling with this. I think it is a decent laptop and I did a lot of research. I waited for a few years for Apple to make a decent laptop and they didn't have one when I bought about a year ago. The Honey extension will sometimes locate discounts on this that are not apparent also there is sometimes cash back with Honey.
The one thing I f'in hate about this laptop on the Gen 1 anyway, is that sometime the TouchPad just stops working completely. I have to close the we page and reload it to get it to work again. It has done this since new.
