Well you can watch a watch but you can't wear an 85" TV. Smilie
Definitely the Sony, they had them side by side in my local Costco and it wasn't even close. Sony was sharper and brighter. And if it were me, I'd just buy the Sony from Costco for $70 more than this deal and get the cash back and warranty. However, I am also of the opinion that the Samsung 82" Q60 beats out the Sony, which is also at Costco. $30 more for better quality but losing 3 inches. Or you could get the 85" Samsung for $2,500. It really just comes down to budget at Costco, there are no bad deals with those three models. Spend more, get more.

I believe the 85 is a VA panel so the rting review doesnt apply. That said i would take it over any ips model any day.

Not really any reviews on the 85 but sony says its 120hz va panel. Direct lit with no local dimming. Im *guessing* it is comparable to the samsung q60

If possible spend a little more for a samsung q70 82. It was $2250 with epp pricing (can be easily had thru some brickseek signup from the post i saw?) recently and should be much better. Just my opinion

Love this TV! Highly recommended at this price. It's 120hz direct lit VA panel without local dimming. Brightness measured at about 600 cd/m2. Android OS is pretty snappy also.
Rtings review on the x850g doesn't apply to this 85" model. People should stop reference rtings review on every 85" model post.

Can you address local dimming and picture quality?

There is no local dimming on this TV. Picture quality is good, 720p and 1080p contents upscale well. Colors are natural imo. If you like the saturated colors look, there is the option to turn on "live color". But it crushes every color imo. At least they give you the option and options are good. My only complain is the bad off angle viewing, but that's true with most VA panel, except for the x950g model, that TV has a special filter.
