Royal purple is above average for oil. And for all intents and purposes, you won't see a major difference between major brands if you are following proper change intervals (5000-7500 miles) and using a quality full synthetic. That being said, Pennzoil Ultra Platinum is a far superior oil, for a cheaper price. To add to that, Pennzoil Ultra Platinum(black packaging) offers a 500k 15 year limited warranty on your engine just for buying the oil and following proper oil change intervals set by your manufacturer (most common being 5000-7500 miles). To sum up, this isn't the best oil, but it's just fine if you want it, Pennzoil Ultra Platinum is better for a cheaper price.

This oil has a higher zinc & phosphorous addictive PPM compared to common synthetic oils. If you drive offensively then this will provide better protection. If you daily drive in the city, then go with common store shelf synth oil to save money.

If using quality full synthetic, you're wasting money changing 5-7.5k.

counterpoint

purple is $30 for 5 quarts of pretty good oil that will last you at least 5kto10k miles if your engine doesnt leak oil

amsoil is OVER $50 for 5 quarts plus shipping and is meant for high performance applications, not driving to 6 different walmart to find that gaming desktop

Folks who use RP and Amsoil usually tear up and rebuild their engines multiple times a year. They are worried about getting more "hours" out of their pistons and parts than months or years. In that instance, saving $20 on oil is a drop in the bucket. M1 Synthetic or WM SuperTech full synthetic is more than enough for us hacks staying under 5000 rpms for 10,000-12,000 mile intervals.
