I have found the "low self discharge" claim to be true, and have left them in bad places for months on end, like in my car over the summer.
I bought one of the chargers that everyone here was recommending, a Nitecore, I think. That also still works great.
The only reviewer that you need to read on Amazon for batteries is "NLee the Engineer." He knows his stuff and is unbiased.
If you have any gear that uses C or D cells, the generic adapters they sell on Amazon and eBay work very well. Eneloops also are true to size, more so than some others, or so I have heard, making them fit into those adapters.
I rarely buy non-rechargable batteries anymore. Maybe just for smoke detectors.

They're the gold standard. Nothing fancy, not the highest power level, but the best on low discharge rate and durability.
I bought these over 4 years ago and they're still going strong and work pretty well for me and my xbox
