Getting ready for 25 comments asking if this has a second RAM slot...

I will save you all the hassle, it does NOT have a second slot for RAM. RAM is single channel/slot only.

I'm running MS VS Code on my Ryzen 5, it runs just fine. Upgraded mine to 16GB, just because it was cheap and easy.
Nice.. thanks for the input. do you think it will be a big downgrade going from Ryzen 5 to Ryzen 3 with 8gb ram?

I'll mainly be using it for web browsing, youtube, microsoft word, pdf viewing, and coding on IDE.

I can't say for sure, but I don't think it'd be a big deal. Web browsing definitely not, though you might want to upgrade the RAM so you have more tabs. YouTube not a problem, Word not a problem, PDF not a problem. Coding shouldn't be a problem for the actual coding, but compiling (depending on what you're doing) probably would do better with the Ryzen 5.

For most of those tasks you'd be fine, but it's probably worth buying a stick of 16GB RAM for $55 at some point and upgrading. There are six screws on the back, pop the case off with a guitar pick, swap the RAM, and close it back up. Took me 5 minutes.

I can look up what size I used later. In the meantime, this video [youtube.com] might be useful.

Beauty shot of my Motile M142 running Ubuntu and MS VS Code, showing system monitor resources. Smilie

Just received mine, turn it on, and each time Windows loads, it tries to do a bios update, if you click on update the program closes, but nothing happens. Next time i reboot does the same thing. Any ideas ? I've gone thru the startup folder (For all users and my own user) and nothing there. Nothing in add/remove programs to remove.

Does Motile actually have a website with drivers/bios updates ?
It starts from Scheduled Tasks or Task Scheduler (can't remember what it shows up as). Just go in and disable anything under THX.

Figures... I just bought this at $210 and it was suppose to get here tomorrow.

So I bought this for $200 today and will return the one I bought for $210 that's coming tomorrow.... along with a EVOO I bought for $90 that is just too slow... I will probably use the savings toward an upgrade to 8GB.

Or maybe the Ryzen 5 system will be $300 again soon......

How is the fan noise for this model? I want a laptop as quiet as possible... otherwise I may go for a chromebook instead.

Which can have more tabs open? 4gb chromebook or 8gb windows pc? Most of my work is done with all of google's apps and while it's not going to be my main work station, something portable is needed.
I don't know the answer to your question. However, I have a suggestion to make. If you are opening many tabs on a browser. I would recommend you to have an addon tool for your browser. I have a firefox addon tool call noscript. It blocks much of the scripts in a webpage. It definitely help the speed of the computer regardless chrome or firefox browser.

Here ya go [amazon.com]. It was actually $58, pretty close though. This is what I put in my M142 to go from 8 to 16GB.

EDIT: Disclosure, Amazon charity link used, donates to the Electronic Frontier Foundation.
