Getting ready for 25 comments asking if this has a second RAM slot...

I will save you all the hassle, it does NOT have a second slot for RAM. RAM is single channel/slot only.

Not sure if it was in Reddit or this thread, but to whoever said you can remove the "Motile" logo on the top of the lid, you are correct! The letters for the logo are attached by adhesive. I used a plastic non-marring tool to push/scrap them off. Don't push too hard...but the logo does come off. Used an alcohol wipe to remove sticker residue. Now, it has a clean look on the lid.
How about the logo under the screen? I assume you can just put a sticker over it if you want to.

Yeah...that logo below the screen does not peel off. Probably putting something over it is best.

So does anybody think this would support dual monitors (22/19inch x2) out of the box? (thinking of keeping the case closed at all times).

Or is the GPU just not their.

Not for gaming just dual screen work stuff/email/office/ etc

Trying to decide between getting this or a small foot print desktop...

8gb is an absolute must in win8, Has anyone tried it at 16/12gb?
no such thing as a 12gb ram configuration on this as it only have one sodimm slot. so you are limited to 4GB 8GB 16GB 32GB configuration

only 1 HDMI 2.0 so you can do a large 4K monitor and hopefully that would help with no having to have multiple smaller 1080p monitors? If not you can use usb video adapter like these: https://www.amazon.com/Video-Adap...8832421101

So in a nut shell what's the difference between the r3/r5? Bigger pipes/cache? More cores?
Or just clock speed?
more cores and faster clock speed.

1. Does anyone know if the SATA drive can be removed in favor of dual-channel RAM? According to this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l32orFMzCIk), it would appear its possible.
2. Assuming the answer to number 1 is yes, how much of a price bump for an NVME drive + dual-channel ram would be worthwhile in light of the laptop being $200 as it is? For instance, if an NVME drive and dual channel memory (16GB say) would cost an additional $200, is the laptop worth $400?

thank you!

Need 8gig ram minimum
For what? You're not going to be playing any high end games on this. 4GB is more than enough for what this laptop is targeted for.

What's the return policy on laptops at Walmart?
How do people like this that bought them the last few fp deals?
I got the Ryzen 5 version for my girlfriend and was impressed with the bang for the buck. I found Windows 10 to be buggy as shlit however with the new "administrators are basically dumb shits who aren't allowed to do anything any more" mode, plus the plethora of trash apps preinstalled that you CAN'T REMOVE. I dumpstered the shit and installed ZorinOS and she loves it.

Don't know what the guy in this video is smoking, but there is only 1 RAM slot. You can't put 2nd RAM module in this book, with or without SATA drive.

Negative. It isn't hard to consume over 4GB of RAM with even moderate everyday use. I agree 8GB is the functional minimum to ensure smooth usage for everyone but power users.

That not withstanding, having a second RAM module allows the CPU to access the RAM in dual channel mode, increasing performance even at lower RAM consumption workloads.

* Power users would benefit from even more than 8, especially for a bit of future proofing.

I have 14 tabs open in Chrome and it is using less than 1GB of RAM in my 32GB RAM laptop. If you have a lower available amount of memory, Chrome will not precache as much content, hence using less RAM.

It's not hard because that's how it's supposed to work. Good memory management means that the system doesn't page anything until available RAM is depleted. You're confusing free memory with available memory. Typical users absolutely do not need more than 4GB of RAM, and will see zero difference in system performance.

There is almost no difference in performance between single channel and dual channel performance outside of max load server applications, and this has been proven time and time again. Unless you can perceive a difference in performance down the NANOSECOND, you will see literally no difference between the two, unless you're running some synthetic benchmark and seeing 50 vs 53 nanoseconds in read rate.

I'm not sure what you mean by a "power user" because that term has been used quite loosely vs when it was coined decades ago. I am by all measures a "power user" and I assure you that if you're using this computer for compiling millions of lines of code, encoding or decoding media content, running a virtual network in VMware workstation or attempting to play any AAA game titles from the past several years then you are doing it wrong.

It's a $200 laptop that's meant to appeal to the large majority of people who just use their systems for browsing the web, doing general office work, or watching videos. It is perfectly suited for exactly that and will not benefit any appreciable amount from the added expense of 8GB vs 4GB, and not at all in dual channel mode vs single channel mode.

No, and it wouldn't matter anyway. Contrary to popular [and completely wrong] belief, dual channel RAM access yields very close to zero performance improvement except in high-load server applications.
