I told them I was thinking about canceling service - they transfer to another department (rententions) - they are able to give you better deals. I told them I might switch to a competitor (if u have one - I know a lot of places it's only one - but I also had a dsl provider that I could compare price). They were able to drop the price some (not to 39.99) and increase speed to 400 - and upgrade modem for free . . .

The TV fees can be pretty high, figure another $15-20 a month. So, really you're looking at around $95 or so a month. I think most people would be better off with just their internet for $45 a month plus YouTube TV for around the same price. Not to mention you can't use the Charter streaming outside of your house like you can with almost any other service!

Typically with Charter/Spectrum, look at what they are offering new customers and that is what retentions can do if you press them hard. Always insist that you are canceling, and let them "save you from leaving". However, retentions will only do 12 months, where some of the new customer offers are locked in for 2-3 years. So, YMMV on whether or not to have your spouse/roommate/parents/pet whatever come in as a "new" customer.

Called, got transferred to retention since sales couldn't make me any offers, retention checked and let me have it without a fuss, my base price was about ~$80 before tax.

Not sure what happened, I see it when I uploaded but then it goes away after I revise the post.. may be size limit? I'll try again by reducing the size.

That's weird :/ I don't know the science behind upload and download speeds but I really wish I had fios out where I live.

Not exactly a science, they could do 200/20 if they wanted to. They just don't. I had Charter forever, but AT&T put fiber in about a year ago. It costs a little more, but it is so much better.

Quick question. Exactly how much bandwidth (speed) do you folks actually think you need? I guess a better way of asking is how much bandwidth are remote services going to deliver to you? I liken it to having a Hemi-Cuda to drive down Main St. Yeah it sounds impressive but are you paying for a number that you could never utilize?

Spectrum offers a streaming TV package that may have channels you like for that $40 that ends up being less than buying all your streaming services a la carte.
The last time I tried Spectrum's TV streaming service they charged me nearly twice the advertised price after adding some bogus 'local TV tax' and service charges and, if that wasn't reason enough to cancel after giving them an earful, the streaming app sucked too. If they weren't my only option for high speed internet here I'd never do business with them again just for pulling that added fee scam.
