Rockler Dovetail Jig:
Cutting beautiful through and half-blind dovetails is fast and easy with our new and improved dovetail jig! Rockler's exclusive one-piece stop gives you the perfect offset every time for dead-on dovetailing accuracy. And our new preset template guide allows for quick initial setup for 1/2" to 3/4" thick stock. Jig will cut half-blind dovetailed joints from 1/2" to 1-1/8" thick and full through dovetails from 3/8" to 3/4" thick. Accommodates stock up to 11" wide. Requires router with 1/2" collet.

Features:
  • 8mm diameter bits are 25% larger than typical 1/4" bits, reduce chatter and fit all existing Rockler dovetail jigs
  • Preset template and fence locations clearly marked for standard thickness stock
  • Clamping bars include abrasive surface to grip stock and prevent slipping
  • Depth gauge on template for setting dovetail bit height for half-blind joints
Rockler Dovetail Jig Dust Collector:

You don't have to spend hundreds of dollars to get dust collection with a dovetail jig. Our revolutionary new dust collector eliminates virtually all the dust created when cutting dovetails. It easily attaches to Rockler's Dovetail Jig and a shop vacuum or dust collection system to provide you with a clean cutting area and safe working conditions.

Features:
  • Easily attaches to Rockler's dovetail jigs
  • Built-in 2-1/4" port fits most shop vac hoses (not included)
  • Sliding baffle directs the dust collection to where the dovetails are being cut
  • Sweep brush adjusts to provide a complete seal for stock thicknesses of 1/2" up to 1-1/8"
  • Contains the dust while allowing the bit to travel through without damage
  • Two extra long 4" knob posts make adding your dust collector shroud easy

Does anyone know how this compares to the Porter Cable Dovetail Jig? Wondering if I should return mine and go with this one instead.

The Porter Cable is better made. The Rockler templates are plastic. The Porter Cable typically gets better reviews. Probably not much difference in use, but I'd rather have the metal templates and save some money by going with the Porter Cable (It's been on sale multiple times recently for ~$135).

Actually, the templates are Phenolic. Phenolic (a type of plastic) is pretty tough stuff and is known for its strength and stability.. Many brake caliper pistons are made of phenolic. They don`t transmit heat as much as steel. They absorb vibration better than steel (reduces squealing). They don`t pitt and corrode like steel pistons do. Now, in a template jig, they will be fine. Many router table tops are made of Phenolic, too (here's an example https://www.amazon.com/MLCS-9580-...=hi&sr=1-1) . They don't rust like a metal, either.

Also, the Porter Cable kit doesn't include the router bits or dust collector. Depends if those are worth $30 to you. If not, then wait for PC to go on sale again. If they are worth $30 to you, then this is a better deal.

1/2" collet. I really screwed up when I bought a compact Dewalt router. There is nothing that fits it.

You wouldn't want to use a trim router to do dovetails

I have this jig, but without the dust collector. It's a bit tricky to setup, but once I got things going it was easy to do normal dovetails repeatedly. I tried my hand at blind dovetails once, but I was using a softer plywood and couldn't get the router bit to not explode the wood when it entered.

If you are looking for a quick way to dovetail, this is definitely a good buy IMHO.

$16 economy shipping for those not near a store.

website says free shipping for email subscribers with orders over $39 but I'm not having any luck after subscribing.

Try "sealing" the edge with painters tape that should prevent some tear out
