In boyhood, Louis Zamperini was an incorrigible delinquent. As a teenager, he channeled his defiance into running, discovering a prodigious talent that had carried him to the Berlin Olympics. But when World War II began, the athlete became an airman, embarking on a journey that led to a doomed flight on a May afternoon in 1943. When his Army Air Forces bomber crashed into the Pacific Ocean, against all odds, Zamperini survived, adrift on a foundering life raft. Ahead of Zamperini lay thousands of miles of open ocean, leaping sharks, thirst and starvation, enemy aircraft, and, beyond, a trial even greater. Driven to the limits of endurance, Zamperini would answer desperation with ingenuity; suffering with hope, resolve, and humor; brutality with rebellion. His fate, whether triumph or tragedy, would be suspended on the fraying wire of his will.

Unbroken is an unforgettable testament to the resilience of the human mind, body, and spirit, brought vividly to life by Seabiscuit author Laura Hillenbrand.

Let me add to the recommendations for this book. It is long, but I finished it in a couple of sittings because it is that engaging. The crap people went through to keep us free is simply amazing.

Definitely one of the best survival books I've read and it was narrated to the author by Louis Zamperini himself before he passed away. You can see how humbly he saw himself despite going through the toughest circumstances.

The only book that ever disturbed my dreams. Maybe because it was non-fiction. I was being beaten by the metal end of a belt to my head, often.

Amazing man.

I'm not really a book reader at all, but this one I couldn't put down. It is a tough read to get through, but so rewarding at the end. An incredible life Louie lived!

It's a short read that you can do in an afternoon. One of the best memoirs I've ever read.

Great book and incredible story. If you liked this, you should consider reading his autobiography "Devil At My Heels"
