This is pneumatic, so you will need an air compressor for it to work.
Too narrow to staple a cable.

Good reviews, it will be nice to have one to keep in the shop. Not expecting too much at this price

Is this good for home improvement projects or should I look at a different model?

May be a dumb question. Will this work directly out of the box if I need to nail Quarterrounds in my house?

Is this overkill for stapling cables around the house?

I would advise against using this for cables, this is powerful enough to run through cable especially if low voltage. These staples are more designed for stronger hold of trim pieces, carpet, thin plywood etc.

Yes, all you need is compressor and hose (with connectors) added and you're good to go. This includes the gun, nails and oil (NOTE: this is NOT oilLESS one so it requires pneumatic oil and it might shoot out some from the cap and to workpieces after initial fill).

Depending on what those projects are. This shoots thinner nails that are good for lighter hold or if used with another adhesive like liquid nails and better for building most smaller wood projects like cabinets, small frames etc. For stronger holds of bigger wood pieces or baseboards I would recommend 16GA one (which makes bigger holes because the nail and head is thicker and bigger)
