From my understanding the downside of this is that you can't use the EDU discount defeating the promotion for those that qualify.

You are better off selling it for 600 then. Isn't it more than that on eBay?

SHould still be sellable for about 1k for the A7RII esp if it has a low shutter count.

Sorry just out of curiosity. These mirrorless camera are impacted by shutter count when it comes time to resells? There is basically no moving parts right? Thanks.
The shutter is a moving part

BH needs to make profit as middle man. 545+300=845, you wouldn't get that
300 by selling on eBay. Problem is what is the criteria for "like new". One might got far less than 545. A "well used" only gets 375 and could even goes down to 175!

I would rather they just have a sales event with direct discount.

If you really want to take advantage of this offer while find that their quotes are offensively low, here's what I did last time: trade in Sony 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS Alpha E-mount Retractable Zoom Lens. It pays you $75-85 as of now. If you don't happen to have one, you can easily get one on eBay for less than $100.

Yeah, easiest way to get the most of these trade-in deals is to buy a cheap (working) lens on craigslist or eBay or somewhere else. As the OP states, the terms for what is an acceptable trade-in are "Any working digital interchangeable-lens camera or lens."

You'll likely get more money for your more expensive cameras or lenses by selling them on your own. So buy a lens for like $20 or less and trade it in to get the discount on the new camera or lens. Then sell your A7xx or A7Rxx on your own (craigslist, KEH, Fred Miranda Forums, eBay, etc).

So how does this work? I trade in my old stuff, I get trade in value for those, and then a bonus if I buy a qualifying item with my trade-in credit? Cause right now, I'm only seeing the trade-in value.
