    OP, that's really good price.
    I bought 2 for ~4.50 ea at my local HD couple days ago.

    Note: The brickseek doesn't reflect clearance price; still shows 7.97 around me.

    You might need to visit the physical stores to check the real price since Brickseek is not reliable on HD price.
    It's a hassle for $3 item. But if you buy 2 or 3, it might be worth it.

    In my local area these toolboxes have a built in eye for a padlock. I use this as a hard case for the DeWalt DCS367B 20V MAX* XR® Brushless Compact Reciprocating Saw, battery, and charger. Spare blades fit in the removable tray.

    There's 2 versions of the 16" toolbox with different SKUs, they were mixed together on the same shelf at my HD, I assume they were selling both at the same price earlier.

    The Made in China ones have a thinner handle and ring up at $3.04, while the new Made in USA ones have a much thicker handle and ring up at $7.97.

    I believe this is correct. The tool box on clearance that is pictured are leftover BF/holiday inventory. The Home Depot and Brickseek links on OP's post are for a different item that is available year long and not on clearance. The metal hinges and box designs are quite different. The BF box's hinge has a rectangular hole and a raised lip, for one.

    The BF box sold for $5.88 during BF and quite some time after (it is on page 8 of BF flyer), when I bought one. Some of my local stores still had lots in stock in display stands (like OP's picture) as of late December at BF price. It has a store SKU 1002 620 877, Internet SKU 301844757, UPC/EAN 6 942629 278931. The product page has since pulled from HD site (which is common HD practice for a "seasonal/holiday" item) which may be why Brickseek can't seem to pull any inventory data [brickseek.com] for this SKU (I checked using a few urban zip codes), Brickseek was able to pull the product picture and review rating if you click on "Brickseek Snapshot" (4.4 stars based on 116 ratings).

    HD has been selling the BF box every winter since 2017. It was $4.88 during 2017 BF, 2018 BF and 2019 Feb to June.

    $3.04 is a great price for a light-medium duty hand tool / power tool box if you can find it.

    The BF box's design is in fact based on a older, discontinued Husky tool box [homedepot.com] (sold in 2014-2018 based on review dates). Compaed to the BF box, the old box has thick reinforcement ridges on the sides of the box that the new one lack, and the old one doesn't have the raised lip on the hinge. The old one was also $5.88 during 2014 holiday/BF too when I bought it, though I gave that one away long ago.

    I bought a couple at $3.04 yesterday but when looking on Brickseek I didn't even see that these were clearanced and they reflected their original retail price at $7.97...so I didn't bother posting the deal but I see someone else has. Decent little boxes if you don't want your stuff laying around. I think I will use one for my Kreg tools so that I keep it all in one place.
