This is not a router; it is an extender only

how will this incorporate with my existing AC86u router and AC86u node?..does this support ethernet backhaul and work well for roaming? or am I better getting another 86u or something?

I already have RT-AC68u, and was looking for some ASUS product to setup AiMesh network.

This deal seems like a little pricey.
Instead buying this deal, I may look for another RT-AC68u(refurb. T-mobile version) or wait for some good RT-AC86U deal.

I have two AC68 routers - one as main router and the other as a AiMesh node. Would it be worth it to replace my existing node with this or are they about the same? Clients connected to my node experience split-second disconnects and I'm not sure how to diagnose.

I remember I was buying new Asus routers every 18 months or so because I was dissatisfied with the performance even with Merlin installed. I eventually got my first and only Synology router.

Never looking back. It's such a relief for my OCD to not have to log network activity to determinedly rule out culprits of high latency or general performance issues. Also very nice to not have to regularly reboot to fix media and file sharing to work. Extremely nice to push updates to my router from anywhere without having to use a VPN or any remote connection protocol. The app does it all.

consider going USED for nodes. That's the real benefit of aimesh. find some crazy cheap near-useless dual-band asus router and turn it into an extender. IMHO, anything more than $20 has a quickly diminishing rate of return on your dollars spent. This from a person with (3) 86u's in place. I spent far more than was warranted.

What is this combined speed up to 1900? How can you connect to both frequencies at 2.4 and 5GHz from a computer to theoretically get that speed? Not trying to start a debate, but I had my wrt1900ac for a few years now and the best I got is just around 200+ at only few feet away with AC, while via ethernet got full speed. Again, what is with the combined speed if you cant technically combine them?

marketing. all speeds of all brands of networking gear is greatly exaggerated.

Just get the AC68U t-mobile version and create the mesh. I bought a brand new one on ebay for about 45 bucks recently.

I recently bought this and I've been using it for a just over a month. It's fast, but the stability is questionable, like any $100 consumer network gear.

I initially configured it in Media Bridge mode to use my desktop in another room. Downloading a lot of data would cause it to lock up, I even checked the device's logs via SSH. Setting it to Extender leaves the media bridge enabled, but also adds another SSID, unfortunately. And even then the connection doesn't seem super stable.

I'm not sure there's a better option for this price though, so I'd recommend it if you're okay with the caveats.
