I personally like this watch a lot, but for one reason or another with my modest budget, I have gone in another direction every time I ponder on buying it.
Ball watches are good watches, in regards to quality and finish, they are extremely well made, I rate them very high, comparable to Breitling, TAG and the likes. They offer original designs too.
As far as resale value though, if sometime in the future I wanted to either sell it or trade it, would it hold its value enough to consider picking this up?
Ball makes nice watches, but the retail price is inflated here. Most Ball watches are under $2k. And they don't really hold resale value too well but that's to be expected for any brand that doesn't spend a lot on advertising.

I wouldn't place Ball and Breitling in the same class. I think if most people had a choice between the two at the same price, most would go with the Breitling. Also, as I recall after a bunch of back-and-forth on another Ball watch deal, I read that Ball is owned by a Hong Kong / Chinese private equity fund. Yes, other Swiss watches are also not independent - Tag is owned by LVMH... but French designer brand LVMH is much preferred to a Chinese Private Equity Fund.
So, yes, this is jewelry -- as you can buy a $10 digital quartz watch with better accuracy than a $4K automatic, but brand and brand image is a big deal here. So, if you' want brand cache with your $1K + watch, I'd look someplace else.

My two pennies.
I'm not sure if he was comparing Ball to Breitling in regards to Brand prestige, as that'd be foolish. But as far as fit and finish/quality... I would agree with him. I've had four Ball watches and two Breitlings and I'd agree that Ball gets very very close to Breitling in terms of fit and finish. All my Ball watches have had better fit and finish than my Tag Heuer Aquaracer, but that's a whole other conversation...

So, a guy with four balls walks into a bar...
Sorry, couldn't resist but I would agree with regarding fit and finish. They do a great job on the cases, and faces particularly.

It wouldn't hold its value. In fact most watches don't, short of Rolex. Even Omega watches drop significantly. If you're looking to purchase a watch I wouldn't look at it as an investment but rather a fashion accessory.

I could say you're a do nothing machine as well. At least the watch doesn't use up clean air.
