I have a memory foam mattress that is a bit in the firm side. I'm wondering if a memory foam topper would help. Is foam on foam ok?

Depends on your definition of comfort, and how well the properties of the foam in question match your desires. Buying a foam topper without knowing the density of the foam is pretty much like roulette - you may get something that supports you perfectly well, or you might end up with something that is so soft and airy that it compresses fully under you weight and has little effect.

I love a bargain, but for a memory foam mattress topper I'd rather spend a little extra for a name brand with known properties than save on a crap-shoot of a no-name topper. Without actual data you'll have to read a bunch of reviews and judge for yourself. That said, I don't know about this one, but it's got to be better than the worthless Big One 1.5" convoluted topper from Kohl's that pops up here every month.

I got the 2" lucid from HD last time, for $28 I think. Glad I didn't go deeper or pay more, it was plenty soft. I wanted to like it but after a few tries I put it away. It was hard to keep in place and hot like others mentioned. I made the mistake of putting a waterproof cover on top and got soaked. Maybe older folks might have a harder time getting out of bed. It might be worth it to for you but I'll save it for the firm guest couch.

I'd suggest looking into latex. It's not what it might sound like.
