According to camelcamelcamel, this is the cheapest this saw has ever been. It has hovered around 500 for the last year, with occasional dips. I realize this isn't the deal of the century, but if you were in the market for a miter saw, this price is a lot of bang for your buck.

It is also available at The Home Depot for the same price.

You are comparing apples and oranges. The reason this saw is so great is because of the glider as opposed to slider. This is a HUGE space saver when it comes to compact setups in workshops. The depth needed behind the saw is minimal in comparison to a normal sliding miter saw. The only other 3 brands that I know that have gliding or reverse sliding miters are Hitachi, Makita and Festool.
Don't forget the Delta Cruzer. I have the 10" and like it quite abit. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Delta...lsrc=aw.ds

The primary reason for this is how many Moving Joints the mechanism has. So if any of them are out of alignment, you end up with something akin to a Parallax error, as the misalignment forces the blade to travel non linearly through space.

This can happen with the regular tube sliders too, if the tube holes are not bore perfectly.

Overall, if you want precise deep straight cuts, the table saw is still the way to go.
I get that all my tools have a certain level of inaccuracy but the amount of complaints and sample pictures of bad cuts associated with this saw just seems a little to much. I get quite good accuracy with my current sliding miter saw and want to take no steps backward. Mt new abode is very limited on space and the compactness is something I would pay for but losing accuracy is just going to be expensive and disheartening headaches I don't need. I take all reviews with a grain of salt but can generally tell is a review is legit or not and the ones I"m seeing seem to be from people that know what they are talking about and the same problem has recurred with multiple tries of the saw and from multiple customers. Still a bit puzzled as all on here seem to be just rave and they are a bit disconnected from what I see on Amazon.

Delta Cruiser FTW (Same price). Has 16" cut capability instead of 12.
It's less on amazon, and this is the Gen 2 with shadow line and a few other bonuses.

I sold my miter saw by mistake at a garage sale, and now need another, BUT, I am a DIY guy, and have a hand SKIL saw, and this would be helpful, but I am thinking &0-140 for such a tool MAX...Since when did these things reach to this level in price? $400!!!
