Did a lot of research last year and got the last generation of this same laptop for my wife for basic everyday use. I think it is a very good intersection between performance and value.
Decent screen, low weight, meh keyboard / touchpad, and good port selection. And I think this has a slot for an SSD.
The integrated graphics card can play WoW Classic (medium/high settings) and Dota 2 (low/medium) and easily handles simpler games like Stardew Valley.
She generally leaves it plugged in so cannot comment on battery life. The battery pack is not very bulky.

Purchased this from Newegg a week ago. Windows updates failed . Settings panel crashes instantly, even with a full reset . Specs look good but will be looking for something similar .

Thinking to jump on, and read lots of good review.
I bough the 3500u version of this laptop for 470. It boots up in 2 seconds. Updated to latest windows without problems. Plays 4K YouTube videos with no issues. Battery is ok for the price. Screen isn't bad either for the price. Shaper screen than my classic 15" MacBook Pro. I think quality might be a bit better. Keyboard feels nice and touchpad isn't bad either. Overall I think it's better than 700-800$ Dells I've used over past 5-10 years.
What's the deal with all the soldered RAM for laptops in this price point? Every time I see a nice deal, it's ruined by the RAM. When All of my desktops are 32GB - 64GB ram I'd want a laptop that has at least 16GB.
Um, at least for gaming you really dont need to go past 16GB for ram cause after that, the ram performance ratio drops off to basically 0.

The included stick is 8GB DDR4 2666, and the Vega 10 brings you down to ~6GB usable.
You can still see it outside but this is definitely not going to blow you away.

Could your unit be one of the bad lemon?

Keyboard is backlit and quite enjoyable to type on.
I also experienced the settings app crashing after windows update, but a clean install of windows fixed it.
