Instructions from @wordage:

I can confirm what @dreamwarrior and @duluthgeek have been saying. I have an existing unlocked smartphone that I was using via Tracfone's BYOP program. It was using a TF AT&T SIM. I am pretty sure any other TF SIM (i.e. Verizon or T-Mobile) would work, too, but the transfer process may take a little longer (see step 7 below). Anyway, I received an AT&T-only SIM (no separate one year card) from Grand Prairie, TX today, and here are the steps I followed to transfer from my preexisting TF AT&T SIM, and maintain all the existing data/minutes/texts, while adding one year of service plus 3GB data + 1200 minutes + 1200 texts that are associated with this new TF AT&T SIM.

1.) go to Tracfone website (https://www.tracfone.com/) and log into your account; my existing TF BYOP AT&T SIM was listed there--well, the phone number was, not the SIM number; if your existing BYOP SIM is not already listed there, set it up
2.) click the "Activate" tab towards the top of the page
3.) choose the "I'M BRINGING MY OWN SMARTPHONE" option, and then choose "YES" for the "ACCEPT TERMS AND CONDITIONS" popup that appears
4.) at the "Do you have a Tracfone SIM card?", choose the "YES, I ALREADY HAVE ONE" option, and enter the full number of your new SIM starting with 89014, then click the "CONTINUE" button
5.) at the "Do you want to keep your current phone number?" screen, choose the "YES" option
6.) at the "SELECT THE NUMBER YOU WANT TO KEEP" popup, select the telephone number of your phone of interest (see step 1 above), and then hit the "CONTINUE" button
7.) you'll end up at a "Phone Upgrade Request Submitted" screen that gives instructions about waiting for your existing SIM to deactivate, then shutting down the phone, putting in the new SIM, and starting up again; hit the "CONTINUE" button to proceed
8.) you'll end up at a "SUCCESS!" screen, woo-hoo, you have completed the process!

At that point, I shut down the phone, pulled the old SIM, inserted the new SIM, and woo-hoo, everything worked. Indeed, when I checked my balances for that phone on the Tracfone website, they had been immediately updated--I did not even have to wait 15 minutes.

I note that since I was already using a TF AT&T SIM, the transfer process was essentially instantaneous (even though the messages on the screen in step 7 above suggested it could take up to two business days). If I had been using a Verizon or T-Mobile SIM, I suspect the transfer might have taken longer.

Anyway, in the long run, if you have an existing Tracfone, and simply want to add a year of service + 3GB data + 1200 minutes + 1200 texts, this is a great deal for $40 + tax. And do not be worried about not getting a separate one year card!

====
BUYER BEWARE! Fraud ALERT Tracfone is sending out SIMs that are not pre-loaded with plans/airtime. You might as well throw $40 out the window. Good luck getting a refund.

see posts on this deal thread and see recent negative seller reviews: https://www.ebay.com/fdbk/feedbac...:ONE_MONTH

I too received empty SIM not pre-loaded and no airtime card/PIN was received. Tracfone customer service is useless and just demanded I buy airtime with a credit card and would not listen that I bought a plan and not just an empty SIM.

Total for the whole year but you can add as you go fairly inexpensively. This isn't for heavy users. It's for light users, backup phones or other scenarios (people usually around WiFi, use other apps to communicate instead of actual texts etc)
awesome deal, best price yet. These plans are ideal for most senior citizens and stay at home moms Smilie and most peeps who arent cell phone addicted. Best bet is to get connected to wifi at home, first thing! you can cheaply add minutes and text throughout the year.. data is a lil more pricey but still better than the avg $80 a month cell bill most peeps pay.

I just got a refund on my Verizon SIM and Tracfone said "The PIN/SIM has been voided and can be thrown away and not returned. Refund has been applied.".

So no one bought a Verizon SIM from this deal (in past week or so) that actually included the 1200/1200/3GB annual plan?

That's what I thought they would do, strange they gave me a prepaid label to mail mine.

EDIT - they just gave me a refund too, now I don't need to return.
What's interesting is that there was nothing saying they canceled the sim & the number is active. It still showed a year of service on AT&T, so I tried swapping it to a TF BYOP Verizon sim & it went through, free year.

Just want to share my own experience here. I also received the ATT specific sim without airtime pin card. Contacted TF via ebay messaging system. They said the sim is pre-loaded with airtime. My current TF phone is on Verizon network. And I don't want to switch to ATT because V network has much better reception in my area. So I requested a return on Monday. Haven't heard back from them since then.

Last night, out of curiosity, I went and checked to see if the sim can be activated or not (since lots of user here saying it can't be activated). It turned out that it was all good and ready for activation. So I decided to give it a try: activate the ATT by keeping my current TF number and then switch back to Verizon.

The process was pretty smooth, except I lost all my balance in the end of the first activation. I didn't panic since I was prepared: took screenshot of my airtime balance beforehand. So I opened a live chat with a TF tech support and told them what happened. I also told them my current airtime balance. They had no problem adding back my balance, just took about 10~15 mins. They didn't ask any further questions or require any proof. The whole process was basically waiting for them to work on their end.

After I got all my airtime balance back (including the additional 1yr of service from this pre-loaded ATT sim), I went on switching back to Verizon network by activating my previous TF phone, which was deactivated after I activated the ATT sim. This phone was listed under my account as "Inactive Device". I didn't even need to use a different V sim. I just click on the "Activate" button under the listed phone, and went through the process by keeping my current number again. I also took a screenshot of my updated airtime balance beforehand. This time I lost only the text balance. So I went to live chat with TF tech support again to get it back, pretty much just like the last time.

So I went to ebay and cancelled the return request (altho they just accepted it and issued a pre-paid shipping label this morning). Well, this is my experience. I suggest you guys to give it a try first before requesting return. TF tech support team should be able to help you if you encounter any problem like I did. And the whole process was not really that bad, considering the saving you get from this deal. If it doesn't work out in the end, you can always request the free return on ebay then.

BTW, I did a quick speed test comparison between the ATT and V network while switching back and forth. I got about 80M down and 20M up on V, but only about 20M down and 6M up with ATT. This test was done in my area of course. So I'm glad I could switch back to V network with all my airtime balance added as it supposed to be.

Bought the "preloaded" Verizon $39.99 SIM, but could not activate it on a BYOP phone.

Will see if eBay can assist me with refund.
Tracfone refunded me, without requiring return of the SIM. Looks like this is the same response others here are getting.

Hopefully they will be able to fix the (programming?) activation problem, so we can take advantage of that low price for "preloaded" 1200/1200/3GB in the near future.

I can confirm that Tracfone forgot to include the 15 pin needed to load the phone with 1200 minutes 1200 texts and 3GB of data. I have an existing Verizon Moto G6 Tracfone. I messaged the Tracfone Ebay store asking that they provide me with the 15 digit pin for the minutes and data for each of the two cards that I ordered.

Not a big deal. This is the first time I have had any issues with Tracfone over many years. Obviously a mistake on their end. Not a scam as some have said in this thread.

Hopefully, Tracfone will send me the pins with the data and minutes. The sim is empty and a BYOP sim without all 3 carriers the $1 sim kit includes.

I will update the thread when I get a response from Tracfone.
I asked about a pin also and was told no. Will probably get refund shortly.

This is what my latest email said from the tracfone Ebay store.

I don't know what a reserve is but it was mentioned earlier in this thread. If I followed the word of the email. I would be activating a Verizon Sim that Tracfone customer care has already said was an empty BYOP sim. As was mentioned a BYOP Sim kit with all 3 carriers included is $1.

So I have Tracfone with a Verizon sim. They sent me the AT&T one, so I returned it and got a refund. What are my options at this stage now to get a cheap year-long plan?

The SIM card must be activated in order to get the airtime. It is not pre-loaded onto the card. Airtime materializes only after activation of the card.

I tried adding the sim through "add device" but got a doesn't exist in our system message. I assume the sim's a dud/been deactivated?

Following up on my previous post, I was provided a full refund for my Verizon kit by Tracfone. I did have to mail my SIM kit back using the prepaid Priority Mail with tracking label (which was paid for by Tracfone). I dropped off the return at the USPS on Thursday and was notified Friday the refund was being processed. There was no way the kit had been returned to TX in one day so their system must process the return upon verified tracking of the return mail shipment.
