this seems like a pretty good deal. if you're looking for just a basic phone plan and You're around Wi-Fi a lot. The $5 a month is the consistent price every month. it's not an introductory price

they use the T-Mobile cell phone towers for their coverage maps

256 MB? of data? That's pissing-in-the-wind amount of data.

This sounds perfect for pairing with the T-Mobile business data plan. 30 gigs for 10 bucks or two lines for $15

The terms say $5 for the first month but nothing beyond that.

If you don't need much data, consider getting Helium Mobile's free 3GB monthly data plan and Whoop mobile for talk and text. The drawback is that two eSIMs may drain more phone battery.

Why not use the Helium for talk and text?

I'd forgotten it was that low. My Helium phone is a backup so I rarely use it.

Any issues with this Helium, like do they flood you with ads, or some other weird thing? or is it truely give away small amount of time in hope you upgrade ?

I keep it off a lot and after a few days they'll email you and tell you to turn location sharing on. Same thing if you leave it at one spot for days at a time, so I try to remember to take it with me at least once a week. Other than that and the occasional email offers for upgrades they don't bother me.

Anyone know what happens with Whoop if you run out of high speed data? Does it just throttle down to low speed (128kbps or whatever) or does it cut you off?
