For the record, this class of safe is meant to keep your stuff safe from a fire... Not an thief. We use ours to house important papers. We literally keep the key in the lock so any thief had a chance to go through it and leave the contents.

Came to this thread to say the same thing. Keeping the key in the lock is actually a great idea for this. I should do that with my fire safe. I'd rather somebody not steal it expecting something valuable. Burglars aren't usually big on identity theft, and they'd have a heck of a time proving they owned my 2006 Chrysler 300 that I bought in 2006 even with the title.

Then what's the purpose of buying this? You can even store those important papers in a shoe box Big Grin why spending $200

It's to keep hard to replace papers safe. Wills, ownership papers, etc. In my state you need the original copy of the will... so if you die in the same fire that your will burns up in... you're heirs/estate will have problems.

It's the fire-after-death thing that has me worried.
