Between the two I would go with the TCL 2018 6-series (R615/617) if you can find one new. I'd be wary of the Walmart refurbs.

What is your reasoning... Thx for sharing. TLC 2018 model is hard to find now .

I can't even begin to fathom why anybody would compare this Samsung to a TCL. Yes I realize a TCL is just a rebranded RCA from China but even still the picture quality will never come close to the level of which Samsung provides.
Nothing against the TCL brand as I've had good luck with their TVs in the past, but Samsung panels are just top notch for picture quality.

Well yeah, the highest end Samsung TVs are much better than anything TCL has to offer. But for this particular Samsung TV (RU7100), the TCL 2018 6-series has considerably better specs.

This Rtings comparison clearly shows that the 2018 6-series is much better than the RU7100. Other Samsung TVs (Q70 and up) are definitely better but at a significantly higher price point.

The TCL 6 Series R617 is much better than the Samsung RU7100. The TCL R617can get brighter, and also has better dark room performance thanks to the local dimming support. The R617 has a better HDR performance thanks to the better HDR peak brightness and better color volume, and it can deliver crisper motion thanks to the faster response time. The Samsung RU7100 has a lower input lag, which is great for games, and better gray uniformity, which can be important to sports fans.

Got the 58" version of the TV. HORRIBLE viewing angle. 1 feet away from center
Of screen, it washes off. Forget about watching from any other corner of the room. Not really bright for bright rooms. Returning it.

My order for this was just canceled, but the deal looks like its still available on the site. Maybe my local costco isn't doing deliveries due to COVID?

1. Samsung makes like 90% of all the panels in the world, or some crazy number. Chances are, that iPhone screen or TCL panel was made by Samsung.
2. You can't understand how a low end Samsung is compared to a high end TCL? Would you rather buy a new $37.5k msrp BMW or $60k msrp Kia, if the Kia happens to be on sale at... $40k? hint: the answer is not the full retail price bmw
3. stop buying by brands and start understanding what you're buying. if one day, Samsung buys the TCL company and start rebadging TCL TVs as Samsung, does it magically make it a good TV in your eyes? If yes, I have a Samsung sticker I can sell you. This happens all the time btw, as you mentioned above
